Last month, former Notre Dame and soon-to-be WNBA superstar Skylar Diggins became the third athlete to sign with Roc Nation Sports, Jay-Z's latest vanity project/sports agency. Yesterday, the people at Roc Nation celebrated Diggins's graduation from Notre Dame by doing exactly what you'd expect an agency that boasts Jay-Z as a figurehead to do: they surprised Diggins with a brand new Mercedes Benz.
If nothing else, this is canny marketing by Roc Nation. The agency's biggest advantage over competitors is its veneer of coolness, and there's nothing cooler than getting a brand new Benz on graduation day. When's the last time Scott Boras did something that elicited a tweet like this from one of his clients?
