Blogdom's Best: San Diego Padres
This image was lost some time after publication. More than any other sport, baseball lends itself to individual blog obsession. Every Major League Baseball team has several blogs obsessed with chronicling the ins-and-outs of everything. Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each team. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours even) for selection, just let us know at [email protected]. Today: The San Diego Padres.
The Padres probably didn't deserve to make the playoffs, and their season ended before most people realized they were even still around. We feel for Padres fans: They've made the World Series twice in their history, and each time they faced one of the best teams of the last 30 years (1984 Tigers and 1998 Yankees). Their best-ever player is actually fatter than the mascot. But for a team on the laid-back West Coast, they've got some pretty excellent blogs.
3. San Diego Spotlight. Sometimes the posts run a little long — long posts make head hurt — but smart, thoughtful analysis. 2. Ducksnorts. Geoff Young's a member of the All-Baseball.com family, so you know he's good. Emphasis on statistics and other things we don't understand but wish we did. 1. Gaslamp Ball. the site's campaign to vote manager Bruce Bochy as mayor of San Diego is pleasing. Plus, the lead guy here is very, very amusing; he alternately despises and reveres his team with frightening passion. As it should be.
