It might not — yet — have the online fanaticism and cachet of baseball, but the NBA and its fans are starting to catch up in the world of team-devoted blogs. To this end, Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each NBA team. There are fewer than there are for baseball, but they're out there, if you look. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours, even) for selection, just let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org. Today: The Golden State Warriors.
Once upon a time, the Warriors were based in San Francisco and played in rickety old buildings such as Kezar Pavilion and The Cow Palace. And they had rickety old players such as Nate Thurmond and Jeff Mullin. The franchise can trace its roots to when it was the Philadelphia Warriors (remember a guy named Wilt Chamberlain?). After moving to California in 1962, they won their only NBA title in 1974, led by Rick Barry, Jamaal Wilkes and the center tandem of Clifford Ray and George Johnson, the latter who still holds the record for largest NBA afro. Ah, good times. Today, the team ain't so good, but the blogging is fine.
3. Way of the Warriors. Went the Way of the Dodo just before Christmas, which is too bad. We'd like someone to update the Mike Dunleavy Fidget-O-Meter.
2. The City. Named for the words that the team used to have on the front of their jerseys, when they were based in San Francisco. A great, informative blog.
1. Golden State Warriors Blog. Bright, snappy, well-written. If you're a Warriors fan, will put a smile on your face despite the Pacific Division standings.
