Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish was asked about the newest Japanese import, and more specifically, the seven year, $155-million contract with the Yankees that blew Darvish's deal (under the old posting system) out of the water. Darvish made the mistake of being sarcastic. It didn't translate.
"I don't know the details of the posting system but I think the Yankees gave him a little bit too much," Darvish said. That quote made the rounds on Twitter, and even got written up, without the crucial context that both Darvish and his interpreter were laughing during the exchange.
So Darvish had to take to Twitter to put out the fire. It's pretty adorable:
Obviously, these two will need to work on a rivalry if they have any hopes of reaching the dramatic heights of Ichiro vs. Dice-K.
