    Blogdom's Best: Detroit Pistons

pistonslogo.jpgIt might not — yet — have the online fanaticism and cachet of baseball, but the NBA and its fans are starting to catch up in the world of team-devoted blogs. To this end, Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each NBA team. There are fewer than there are for baseball, but they're out there, if you look. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours, even) for selection, just let us know at tips@deadspin.com. Today: The Detroit Pistons.

Probably our favorite NBA logo of all time is of the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons, founded in 1941 by auto parts manufacturer Fred Zollner. Looking somewhat like the Halloween costume a mental patient may have fashioned out of old motor oil cans and a beer keg, this fine logo graced the team until 1957, when Zollner moved the team to Detroit — replacing the Detroit Gems, which had moved to Minneapolis to become the Lakers.

Fast forward to 1989, and the franchise's first NBA title, behind Isiah Thomas and Bill Laimbeer. That was the first of three to date, and really, is there any doubt about the outcome of the 2005-06 season? It's all just a formality. Call it the team that Larry Brown built, or the team that won in spite of Larry Brown (choose one). But yeah, they're good. And they've got them some fine bloggin' as well. Let's dig in.

    3. Motoring. Great game analysis — we admire the statistical breakdowns — and a sharp eye on the rear view mirror that is the rest of the league.
    2. Need 4 Sheed. The self-proclaimed king of Pistons highlights and hijinx is not just about Rasheed Wallace — although there is a lot of him. Great design, and, of course, Stewie vs. Rasheed, as noted here previously.
    1. Detroit Bad Boys. Any blog with a post entitled "Rick Telander: Hack" gets our attention. But we also love the writing, the design and just about everything else about it.

Honorable mention: Luke Walton's Forehead, for the name, and Interplanetary Pistons, because of Tayshaun Prince's stretching powers.
