Baseball Player Tears ACL On Homer, Hops On One Foot Around Bases
York Revolution center fielder Sean Smith hit a game-tying home run in the eighth inning for his independent-league team last night, but slipped on first base and tore his ACL. Smith refused to get help from anyone, however; he got on one foot and hopped the rest of the way.
Per the York Daily Record, Smith could have been replaced with a pinch-runner, but Smith wanted to touch them all on his own.
"That was one of the most emotional things I have ever seen in a game," [manager Mark] Mason said. "That was a clutch home run. That gave us an emotional lift to stay in there and keep battling."
The Revolution ended up winning 3-2 in 10 innings, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-game Atlantic League Freedom Division Championship Series.
