This makes what little the Lakers gave for Pau Gasol seem even more ridiculous

Essentially this happened because Kerr couldn't deal Marion to Boston or Memphis for KG or Gasol, so he got desperate to dish Marion before he opted out.

Still a shite trade. The only explanation for "added defense" that Kerr cites is that putting Shaq's bulk in the middle is better than the non-defense Phoenix currently plays.

I've seen a lot of coverage of this trade, and I keep coming back to the same thing: Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks for a fucking genie is a pretty good trade in my book.
