This Ben Roethlisberger situation is complicated, and unless Big Ben finds a genie, it's only going to get worse. Fortunately, I have a de-complicating machine. Let's turn her on and make some sense out of this madness.
•According to Milledgeville, Ga., police department, Ben Roethlisberger and his 20 year old accuser (a student at nearby Georgia College & State University) were together late Thursday, March 4, into early Friday morning and had visited several Milleedgeville establishments.
•Conflicitng stories emerge about Roethlisberger's night on the town. Either he was surrounded by a phalanx of imposing bodyguards, or he was a friendly guy buying people drinks and snapping photos.
•Early Friday, March 05, 2010, an incident involving Ben Roethlisberger was reported to the Milledgeville, Ga., PD. A woman approached a Milledgeville police officer claiming to have been "sexually assaulted or sexually manipulated" by a man matching Roethlisberger's description.
•Police arrive on the scene at Capital City, a pizza place/club in Milledgeville, and talk to both Roethlisberger and the alleged victim.
•Milledgeville Deputy Police Chief Richard Malone states that the woman "alleged that he [Roethlisberger] is the perpetrator," but no charges have been filed and Roethlisberger is not officially a suspect.
•Roethlisberger's agent Ryan Tollner sez:
Last night, Ben and his friends met a group of women and everyone mingled together throughout the evening. We have spoken to law enforcement. Based on information currently available, an allegation was made against Ben, which appeared to be dismissed after a preliminary investigation last night. Obviously, given the prior accusation against Ben, we are skeptical of motive, but we will continue to cooperate with everyone involved.
•Milledgeville Police have confirmed they are investigating Roethlisberger.
