Your morning roundup for Aug. 27, the day Chevy Chase's resurgence finally got to Dan Aykroyd, but not necessarily to Bill Murray, because Bill Murray knows he's better than Ghostbusters 3. This, because he unequivocally is. Got any stories or photos for us? Tip your editors.
What we watched: "Taxi Driver" was on for a while. But I wished it was "Dog Day Afternoon." At one point, I even requested "Bachelor Pad," because I'm holding out till Vienna snaps in a way that people haven't snapped on TV before. But then I realized they edit that shit well in advance, so if she took a chunk out of someone's neck, we'd never see it. ABC would make fucking sure of it. Defeats the purpose of presenting reality television not exactly as reality reality — we're long past that point — but as the reality created by putting a school of touched people on a televised gerbil wheel partially immersed in a puddle of vanity and syphilis. It's not like they drown in it; it just splashes around, getting on everyone and everything. Club soda gets most of it out, but it still leaves a faint stain.
So, I put "The Town" on. It was decent, and not just because Renner wears a T-shirt from the Irish Pub in A.C., which is a place I love, and a place I suspect will be just fine despite the storm surge which'll show up later today/tonight/tomorrow. Just is.
Former NBA player charged with killing mother of four in unintended drive-by: "When he saw the person he believed robbed him, a former NBA player and Georgia Tech standout fired gunshots from a black SUV, striking a 23-year-old mother of four, Atlanta police said. Now, Javaris Crittenton, 23, faces a murder charge in the death of Jullian Jones, authorities said Friday night." [AJC]
The skies spoke to the Calgarian, and it spoke well of Cheechoo's future: "James Redeker, of Calgary, said he took the above picture on Wednesday morning and then emailed it to NewsChannel 5 and wrote, "I think it may be God's way of telling me to bet on the Blues to win the Stanley Cup this year." The cloud above the fence and trees appears to show a backwards Blue Note, the symbol of the Blues. [KSDK]
"I cannot bring Declan back, but I can help spread the word on aerial lift safety": "The University of Notre Dame launched a website Friday publicizing the hazards of aerial lifts, part of its settlement with the state over safety violations in the death of a student videographer at football practice last year." [Chicago Tribune]
