Italian league matches were suspended today across the country after the horrifying news that Piermario Morosini, a midfielder for Livorno on loan from Udinese, had collapsed on the pitch with a heart attack and was pronounced dead at a hospital. He was 25.

According to Italy's Gazzetta, Morosini collapsed in the 31st minute of Livorno's Serie B match at Pescara.

The tragedy comes just four weeks to the day after Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed midgame under similar circumstances, only to later be revived.
