While he has been rehabbing from hip surgery in May, LaMarcus Aldridge has been posting on his blog called LA's Rehab Central, part of the Trail Blazers Bloggers Network. The other two posts on the blog are quick updates about how his rehab is progressing. They are pretty innocuous posts along the lines of "Hey, I'm walking now," and "Did some work in the pool, feeling stronger!"
His update Friday, however, had bit more meat to it.
On Saturday I came down with a blood virus. I quickly became sick and had to be rushed to the hospital. I thought it was a case of bad food or a bad cold, but I was wrong. It turned out to be a very serious virus that if not treated quickly could actually be deadly! One thing I know for sure is that I've never felt worse in my life and there were times I wasn't really sure where I was going. Thankfully I had a lot of family support and great medical care that helped me fight through it and now I've turned the corner and I'm feeling much better.
Details are scant on what exactly the deadly blood virus is, but it sounds like he almost had some kind of stroke. Aldridge mentioned difficulty walking, talking and opening his eyes among other symptoms during the episode. It is weird that he voluntarily offered up this information on his own team blog, but the cutting out of the reporter middle man is a story for another day. For now, all seems clear and he can get back to rehabbing his hip.
Here's hoping for a return of those short, boring updates.
