This was bound to happen once he announced he would retire following the tournament, but it's still a nice moment to watch for the suckers in Arthur Ashe stadium. The crowd was juiced on match point and had to be told twice, in vain, to quiet down, but it didn't matter. Roddick's serve was returned right into the net and the Andy Roddick lovefest hobbles on.

It's a little weird to see since it's always been about what could have and should have been with Roddick (stupid Federer being so vicious) and he's now getting the champion's goodbye, but maybe it says just as much about the state of men's tennis in the United States as it does Roddick. No matter the history, the fans were showing their appreciation and Roddick was having a hard time keeping it together and looked like he was choking up on the court.

Roddick advanced to the fourth round of the Open after beating the 59th ranked Fabio Fognini in four sets.
