Prompted by a discussion between Gawker's own Mobutu Sese Seko and Sports Illustrated college football writer Holly Anderson, we created this mp3 celebrating the best and only relevant moment of Night Ranger's musical career. We think it's worth using to highlight plays, so here's the best runs from this past weekend in college football. They're Motorin'!
Oklahoma State-Texas: Joseph Randle's 69 Yard "Bam!"
We're catching on! Eagle-eared listeners caught a bit of Motorin' last night at Cowboys Stadium after a strong Dallas run. In other Lone Star State interests, Texas held onto their undefeated record Saturday with a slim-margin 41-36 win over Oklahoma State, but the star of the game was Cowboys running back Joseph Randle. He finished just shy of 200 yards on the day and scored two touchdowns—the first of them a 69-yarder that was pure power.
Rhode Island-BGSU: Boo Boo Gates Takes A Punt 80 Yards
BGSU rolled over FCS squad Rhode Island 48-8 Saturday, but we never hesitate to provide a highlight from our favorite-named player in college football. Boo Boo, more There He Goes than Here Comes, makes mincemeat of the Rams' punt coverage team.
Oregon-Washington State: Kenjon Barner Scampers 80 Yards
Oregon-WSU looked, for ten minutes maybe, like it might be a game. Heck, it was only 23-19 at the half. That didn't last long, and the Ducks ended up winning with a 51-26 advantage. Kenjon Barner put the cherry on top of that rout with a lovely 80-yard rush.
Alabama-Ole Miss: Christion Jones's 99-Yard Kickoff Return
Ole Miss gave top-ranked Alabama more of a game than anyone was expecting; 33-14 might be a blowout against anyone but the Crimson Tide, but the Rebels have a few things to hang their hats on. Allowing this 99-yard kickoff return from Christion Jones is not one of them.
Ball State-Kent: Dri Archer Takes A Kickoff 99 Yards
#MACtion usually reserves itself for weekday night games, but this Saturday found middle America's favorite conference bringing the excitement in full. Kent fought to a hard 45-43 win over Ball State, paced by this 99-yard kickoff return from Dri Archer. Perhaps expecting a future Motorin' appearance, our favorite broadcaster Mike Reghi urges viewers to "buckle it up, everybody."
MTSU-Georgia Tech: Benny Cunningham Takes It 60 Yards For The Touchdown
Who saw the Sun Belt's MTSU demolishing Georgia Tech 49-28 in Atlanta? (Put your hands down, Tech fans.) Benny Cunningham ran for 217 yards on the (literal) Wreck, gaining 60 of them on this lovely rush.
Iowa-Minnesota: Christian Kirksey's 68-Yard Interception Return
Those undefeated season dreams are over, Gophers. The Iowa Hawkeyes shut them down good and quick en route to a 31-13 victory in Iowa City. It was over when Minnesota quarterback Max Shortell found his pass in the arms of Christian Kirksey, who took it all the way for a Hawkeyes touchdown.
