Katie Couric's Next Big Interview Is With Joe Paterno's Widow
Fresh off her big sit-down with Manti Te'o, Katie Couric scored an interview with Sue Paterno, the widow of the late Penn State head football coach. The segment, which is scheduled to air Monday, will mark the first time Sue Paterno has spoken to the media in any detail since Jerry Sandusky's arrest in November 2011, which led to her husband's firing. Joe Paterno died two months after that, at the age of 85. Last summer, former FBI director Louis Freeh's private investigation of Penn State—which was bought and paid for by Penn State—accused Paterno and three university administrators of covering for Sandusky. Paterno was never charged with a crime, but those other three administrators were, and they're all still awaiting trial.
The Hollywood Reporter says Couric visited with Sue Paterno at her home in State College, Pa., and that Sue Paterno is also expected to be in-studio when the segment airs. The Paterno family's own evaluation of the Freeh report's findings are expected to be made public soon; the Couric interview will mark the beginning of the family's redoubled efforts to salvage its late patriarch's reputation.
