The Steelers beat the Colts on a field goal in the waning moments last night, and one would think that in such a surprisingly close game, NBC's focus would remain on the field. One would be wrong. All evening, Cris Collinsworth and Al Michaels would talk about the injured Peyton Manning, take a breath, and then talk about the injured Peyton Manning some more. I counted 26 mentions of Manning in all during the broadcast: 13 for Collinsworth (of course), nine for Michaels, and four for sideline reporter Michele Tafoya. More »

But I make an exception with this gentleman, who is a big reason that I accepted an invitation to attend the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita this past Saturday. Meeting the great Mel Brooks was certainly a bigger thrill than watching Curlin, who must have had an extra large helping of Fail mixed with his alfalfa that morning, finishing fourth in the Classic.
