But Ken Norton did fall down on Jan. 23, 2012, while posing for a picture after a press conference at the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas. I saw it happen. Ken Norton, the esteemed special guest at the press luncheon, shuffled to the front of the room amid the Cleveland Clinic doctors and public relations representatives, let go of his walker, and slowly, oh so slowly, tilted backward and fell through the step-and-repeat backdrop. The Amir Khan-Lamont Peterson fight in DC last month ended with a surprising and narrow split decision win for the underdog Peterson in front of his hometown crowd. Khan is a budding superstar. Peterson is a solid fighter. He could have pulled off an upset, but he didn't, not according to our boxing correspondent, Hamilton Nolan, who was at the fight. Khan was docked points for pushing in rounds seven and twelve and lost 112-113 on the scorecards of the two judges. He lost his WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles. More »

Floyd Mayweather Jr. didn't take too kindly to Sirius radio host Rude Jude's accusation that he's afraid to fight Manny Pacquiao. So Mayweather decided to call Jude's show yesterday, at the urging of 50 Cent, and you can listen to the audio above. Mayweather never directly addresses the issue at hand, choosing instead to maneuver defensively. The conversation degenerates almost immediately, and by the 1:47 mark Mayweather is reduced to counterpunching with this: "I guarantee you you're not black." A flurry of mindless shouting, cursing and insults gets tossed after that. Mayweather eventually hangs up, but not before he says something about "racial profiling" and both sides get in last-second jabs with gay slurs. "The World Boxing Council on Thursday ruled Chad Dawson did not defeat light-heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins by technical knockout, as officials working the Saturday fight at Staples Center ruled. Instead, the WBC ruled the outcome was a technical draw, allowing Hopkins, 46, to keep his belt.
