According to documents obtained by SBNation and the Associated Press, Carl Pelini resigned as FAU coach after two witnesses reported seeing him use drugs. One of them also added that he saw Pelini use cocaine. That witness? According to the Sun Sentinel, it was FAU's D-line and special teams coach Matt Edwards.
Pelini, along with defensive coordinate Pete Rekstis, abruptly resigned on Wednesday and were escorted off the premises by police. AD Patrick Chun said only that it was after evidence of "illegal drug" use had cropped up, and an early ESPN report claimed the two had been at a "social event" where pot was used.
The documents obtained through FOIA requests (embedded below) contain two affidavits, one from Edwards and another from a woman named Allison Stewart. Both say they personally saw Pelini smoking marijuana in Key West on Oct. 19. Edwards's affidavit adds that "Within the last 12 months, I have personally observed Carl Pelini use both marijuana and cocaine." Stewart's states that she "personally received a text message from Carl Pelini admitting that he uses drugs on occasion."
