Craig Ehlo Was Allegedly Burning Clothes When Authorities ArrivedS

We told you yesterday about the arrest of former NBA player Craig Ehlo, who was charged with domestic violence and first-degree reckless burning early in the morning in Spokane, Wash. Now, courtesy the Spokesman-Review, we have the details of what led to his arrest.

Around 1 a.m., fire crews initially responded to a call at Ehlo's home. When they got there, they found a pile of burning clothes and a group of people engaged in an altercation. The firefighters called for police help. The Spokesman-Review can best explain things from there:

“As (deputies) approached, they saw two males holding down another male on the ground, who was Craig” Ehlo, [sheriff's spokesman deputy Craig] Chamberlin said.

Deputies detained Ehlo and questioned witnesses.

“Through the investigation, the deputies learned that Craig had a domestic dispute. He had been arguing with his wife earlier in the evening,” Chamberlin said.

Family members then heard strange noises coming from the garage. They went out and “saw Craig piling up clothes next to the garage and he lit them on fire,” Chamberlin said.

The family members told the deputies they were holding Ehlo because “they thought he was … going to run and jump onto the fire. That’s why he was being detained on the ground.”

No injuries were reported to any members of Ehlo's family. Ehlo was charged with reckless burning—a Class C felony—because the fire did damage to an awning and melted some siding. Ehlo was due for his first appearance in court today at 4:30 p.m. EDT.
