The highlight shows Derrek Lee bouncing out harmlessly to end the inning, but Andrew McCutchen had belted a two-run homer on the previous at-bat to tie the game at 4 in the seventh. Golly, Carpenter's reaction is a heckuva lot worse than what Jaws said during Monday Night Football, even if it was uttered in a moment of anger. Ah, well. The Cardinals did wind up winning, and Carpenter now has 21 million new reasons to calm down. More »

Tipster George sent in a clip of MASN commentator Jim Palmer making a fairly recurring slip-up while discussing Derek Lee's bulging disc on Sunday. Here's a brief look back at the ever-expanding history of sports anchors saying "bulging dick" on air, featuring Palmer, Steve Levy, and Win McMurry. And since there's nothing like people reporting earnestly on dick-related affairs (see previously: Harry Baals), we can only hope that athletes continue to sit out due to bulging dicks — er, discs — in the neck. More »

We can't always be on our "A" game every single weekend. (Lord knows I'm hoping that's true.) Sometimes the perfect storm of events jar one's concentration just enough to experience a near meltdown. In my case, the day was June 25, 2007. I had locked my keys in a rental car. But keeping it together during moments of sheer ineptitude is what makes great professionals. Which brings us to ESPN's Jon Miller. More »

Yes, yes, we're Cardinals fans, but like a lot of other Cardinals fans, we're having a hard time finding any giddiness from Derrek Lee's broken wrist, which could keep him out three months. We're sorry to pick on him — really! — but we feel obliged to point out that in his new More Cowbell column, which looks at the American League MVP race, our boy Bill says the National League race — a league that Simmons full confesses to "knowing nothing about" — "can be summed up in one word: Pujols." (We assume he means Albert; when it comes to the NL, you can never be too sure of Bill's ignorance.) Of course, the talk all year has been of Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee's run for the Triple Crown. We have a feeling Bill legitimately hasn't noticed. Of course, if we were hanging out with Jeffrey Ross and "Jimmy" at the Pam Anderson Roast, we might have missed some stuff too. More »
