We're all still warm from the glow of the uprising that sent ESPN.com's commenter police into retreat—a remarkable, joyful march that continues unimpeded even as this is being typed. At the same time, we couldn't help but think of those comments ESPN's moderators have allowed to remain attached to other stories—comments whose purpose and tone is far more cruel and sinister than the playful impulse of the OccupyTebow movement. And so we went looking, and we were fascinated by what we found. Here, without any additional reaction, we present screen grabs of those comments for you. More »

The sit-in at ESPN.com continues unmolested, as the overworked mods have apparently ceded the comment section to mob rule. Meanwhile, people who should know better still don't realize this has long stopped being an attack on Tebow himself, or even draconian comment moderation on a site that's more than happy to contribute to the oversaturation of Tebow when it suits them. This is bigger than all of them now: it's a meme, which needs no end other than itself. "X > Tebow" is as much about Tebow as Nyan Cat is about Pop-Tarts. More »

The ESPN.com comment section is a den of iniquity and misspelling, and for the world's largest sports site, it's curiously inessential. The open registration means the discourse tends toward lowest common denominator, and it's too big to engender much sense of community. But once in a long while the disparate masses are united by a polarizing figure. This week, one Mr. Tim Tebow has worked that miracle. More »

Hope Solo, BAMF and nascent sex symbol, shared an ebullient moment with Abby Wambach after yesterday's game. With the match's two heroes and an American flag, it's no wonder the image ended up splashed across the internet. A Reddit user noticed the photo on the front page of ESPN.com last night, and compared it with the original version, taken for and distributed by Getty Images. This afternoon, Durant put out the call on Twitter for help getting to something on ESPN.com Insider. Buried at the bottom of Page 2 today is a clarification from columnist Scoop Jackson, who caused a veritable shitstorm thanks to his B.J. Upton column, when he haphazardly implied that Upton's laziness was a reason for young African-Americans to look up to him. Not really what he meant, of course, but that's how many people interpreted it. Well, Rob King's email box must have been locked-up due to all the hate mail because poor Scoop had explain himself to the Page 2 audience. More »
