The fine folks at the Baseball Hall of Fame mailed out their ballots today, and I immediately called our travel agent just to threaten her with litigation if she even thinks about getting me a hotel in Cooperstown next summer. More »

The tale of Jay Mariotti, as sad and vile as it may be on the surface, isn't entirely unique. During his interview with Fox's Jason Whitlock months ago, Mariotti played off the first set of allegations as an isolated moment of rage (he was trying to "help the person [his girlfriend]," he said), and he may not have been lying. But it also represented the last step in a transformation from an acerbic, confrontational sportswriter into a semi-celebrity totally divorced from normal human behavior and whose life was quickly becoming an ongoing exercise in brand management. Like I said, this isn't new. What follows is a little bit of armchair psychology, based on thousands of hours spent monitoring and bullying ESPN personalities about some of their off-screen activities. More »

The 2011 Washington Auto Show played the fame card in booking Redskins tight end Chris Cooley and Seaside Heights low center of gravity Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi to appear. This CSNWashington video indicates that the encounter lasted mere seconds. More »

Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing (really Patrick? shorts? did you forget to pick up your dry-cleaning?) and Pat Riley were inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame last night, along with their classmate Dick Vitale. Dickie V was, as usual, the star of the show. His passionate speech reminded everyone of why he was put there. More »
