With two outs and two men on base in the bottom of the ninth of a 2-1 game, Mets pinch hitter Justin Turner hit a tailing line drive to left-center. By the time the ball makes its way into the outfield, Andrew Brown is rounding third and Omar Quintanilla is already at second. It was that kind of game for the Mets, who watched Dillon Gee lose a no-hitter in the seventh inning and Bobby Parnell blow a 1-0 lead in the ninth. Then Heyward made his incredible diving grab, prompting Newsday to write this sentence:
With that, the Mets wasted a chance to climb within nine games of the first-place Braves for the first time since May 31.
