Madison Square Garden is the oldest arena in the NHL, and was best described as a serviceable dump. The kind of place that trafficked more in history than inherent charm. But that was before the beginning of a three-year renovation that will add the kinds of modern amenities that nobody was clamoring for, like luxury suites and sushi bars. The Washington Wizards unveiled their Bullets- and nation-inspired new logos and uniforms in D.C. today. They're red, white, and blue, because of America, which team president Ernie Grunfeld says "our players love... It's appropriate that the Wizards, Mystics and Capitals now share their colors and the goal of bringing a championship to Washington, DC." We wish them the best. More »

Tim Lincecum will be on the mound (and on the Magazine cover) as the Giants open their season this evening with an 8 p.m. EST game against the Dodgers. There's always been something about Lincecum that suggests an aversion to selling-out or going for products (it's the long hair; I'm stereotyping) so in a way we shouldn't be surprised that the 26-year-old now has his very own logo. There certainly is some level of independence that comes with independent-branding. The Giants' Twitter page says he'll be using it "on upcoming personal projects."
