This month, Marv Albert celebrated his 70th birthday and joined the NFL on CBS. He announced he would leave his gig calling Nets games for the YES Network&mdash;he wouldn't have the time. The CBS job "wasn't something I was looking for," <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/07/sports/football/marv-albert-to-call-nfl-games-for-cbs.html">Albert said</a>. Marv, at 70, is sports' most sought-after voice, so much so that he's getting coveted jobs he never asked for, and announcing sports (football, college basketball) he hadn't in years, on top of his usual NBA on TNT load. <a href="http://deadspin.com/5814233/the-comeback-pig-marv-albert-and-how-to-survive-any-sex-scandal" title="Click here to read more about The Comeback Pig: Marv Albert, And How To Survive Any Sex Scandal">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

During the closing minutes of Heat-Mavs last night, Mike Breen said that the game would go "a long way towards determining who wins the series." That statement, while unnecessary, was at least true. I'd like to talk about the stat that can appear in any game of any playoff series: that the team that wins Game X wins the series Y% of the time. Yesterday, the stat <em>de jour </em> was that in all 11 previous 2-3-2 NBA Finals in which the series was tied 1-1, <a href="http://www.nba.com/2011/news/features/06/06/game-3-notes/">the team that won Game 3 went on to win the championship every time</a>. <a href="http://deadspin.com/5809115/a-quick-note-on-those-whoever-wins-game-3-wins-the-series-people" title="Click here to read more about A Quick Note On Those &quot;Whoever Wins Game 3 Wins The Series&quot; People">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Of the many reasons to feel generally <em>blah</em> about the upcoming Magic-Lakers series, there is, above all, this sad fact: <a class="autolink" title="Click here to read more posts tagged MIKE BREEN" title="Click here to read more posts tagged MIKE BREEN" href="http://deadspin.com/tag/mike-breen/">Mike Breen</a>, the only man who watches basketball and cheers for the refs, is still the voice of the <a class="autolink" title="Click here to read more posts tagged NBA FINALS" title="Click here to read more posts tagged NBA FINALS" href="http://deadspin.com/tag/nba-finals/">NBA finals</a>. <a href="http://deadspin.com/5276224/joyless-mike-breen-threatens-to-make-boring-finals-even-more-unbearable" title="Click here to read more about Joyless Mike Breen Threatens To Make Boring Finals Even More Unbearable">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Mike Breen, it seems, almost came out of nowhere to take over as the lead NBA broadcaster. It took an odd confluence of circumstances for the guy to go from ski jumping in 2002 to the NBA Finals in 2008. <a href="http://deadspin.com/5010168/media-approval-ratings-mike-breen" title="Click here to read more about Media Approval Ratings: Mike Breen">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>
