Well, possibly. Or maybe he saw it as a lack of appreciation and respect for what he'd done for the team. Plus, it's all about the guaranteed money with NBA players. Anybody can get hurt at any time. Players want security...just like anybody else.
"Biedrins actually averaged a near double-double (10.5 and 9.8) in only 28 minutes per game last year, and considering how much money teams dole out to underperforming centers on a regular basis, this should hardly be considered overpaying, especially when you consider the man is still only 22."
While that's certainly true, don't you think that maybe, just maybe, Biedrins' numbers were inflated by the Warriors' style of play? More shots, more rebounds, etc.?
"Furthermore, it is hardly accurate to compare the man to Troy Murphy, who stays 20 feet away from the basket at all times, shoots a much lower percentage than Biedrins (who led the league in shooting percentage last season), and collected most of his rebounds (Murphy did) following his own missed jump shots, which in turn were followed by more missed jumpers."
I dunno. When Troy was averaging 10 RPG for the Warriors, over 7 of those were on the defensive end…according to Basketball-Reference.com. Also, it stands to reason that Biedrins is going to have a higher shooting percentage: Troy's a jump shooter and, according to 82games.com, Biedrins shot selection breaks down like this: 65 percent "close," 12 percent dunks, 12 percent tips, and 11 percent jump shots. You're going to have a high FG% when all you do is lay it in, dunk, and get put-backs. But that also means he's not exactly versatile offensively, which means unless he's in the paint his defender can sag off him to provide help...among other liabilities.
Anyway, the reason I called him Murphy 2.0 wasn't because they are the same player, rather that Biedrins seems to offer the same numbers but he does it in a more efficient manner.
And they lost. To me, that's Epic Fail.
Although, granted, the Celtics made an Epic Comeback, no question about it. But when a team has as many things going in their favor as L.A. did, there's really no excuse for letting a team that's been bad on the road and has no true go-to guy beat you under the circumstances.
@futuremrsrickankiel: I'm going to quote you on that Eddie thing on my site...
@FriendsLikeJimRome: Aw, damn it, you're right! [smacks self] Where were you at 5 a.m. when I was writing this??
