I just made a joke about trying to pitch a story as "a think piece about a mid level band struggling with their own stardom" about an hour ago.
You know what's really good with the Solera? Putting a few cherries and a tiny bit of the cherry juice in with it. Normally I don't like to add anything to scotch but for some reason the cherry just goes with the Solera perfectly.
...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. Look, I get it, it's a kind of bad ass name but nothing pisses me off more than band names that are a whole sentence.
WWI is about the only war I haven't had family involved in. In a somewhat related note I had a great grandfather (throw some more greats in I can't remember) who was a general for the North in the Civil War. I always thought this was pretty cool. Then as I was doing some reading recently I learned that his idiocy single-handedly lost not just one, but two battles in the Western Campaign before he was demoted. When I did a little more research I learned that he finished second to last in his class at West Point. The cadet behind him? Custer. For some reason I think learning how inept my relative was actually makes me prouder, which should explain my Bears fandom as well.
As a Bears fan I hate Cris Carter. I hate that he doesn't know how to spell his name, I hate that Chris Berman thinks it's cute to say he only catches touchdowns and I really fucking hate how he called for a flag with his pinkie out every single time he didn't catch the ball. That being said, he should have been in the Hall of Fame on the second ballot at worse.
Despite liking Alkaline Trio's music I always sort of hated them since their existence meant that I could no longer see Slapstick play those same basements you are talking about.
Green Day. I grew up in the East Bay and first saw them play at Gilman Street sometime around 91. My friend's older brother dragged us to the show because he wanted to meet up with some broad at the show and he was looking after us that night (I was 11). From that day on I was a huge punk rock fan, that show absolutely blew my fucking mind. My friend's brother? Got shot down by the hot punk girl and may have not even been aware of who Green Day was when they hit it big a year or so later.
I'm still not convinced that a day featuring a breakfast "with no hog" could really be a good day.
And here's a little Australian punk rock. Enjoy a stubbie of VB for me.
Nah, no pain or pressure. It just feels like I drank a pot of coffee then washed it down with a 2 liter Red Bull and a couple of lines. In other words, it's beating really fast.
Panic Attack DUAN

Hey. Has anyone here had an actual panic attack? Without going in to too much detail the girlfriend and I had "a talk" last night. We have lived together for the last 4 months, been together over 2 years. We decided we're going to work to try to fix things but I don't feel optimistic at all. Since the talk my heart has been racing (going on 18 hours later), I couldn't sleep a wink, I feel a bit light headed, and my stomach is doing flips and I feel like I'm going to puke. Is there something actually wrong with me? Or is this "normal' and I'm just worried? It would be so much easier to have this answered in DUAN than to go to an actual counselor. . .

Shameful DUAN

Today in the car my girlfriend was trying to remember "that one dead guy from Cuba." I assumed she meant Castro and made fun of her for thinking he was dead. She then proceeded to convince me that he died in April. I usually keep up with the news and was almost positive that he was still alive but she was so convinced that it put doubt in my mind. So I looked it up on wikipedia and saw 2 dates under his name, 1 ending in April of 2011 and decided that she was correct. I was crushed. I couldn't believe that I was wrong or that I had forgotten. I started to assume that my brain was turning to mush. Of course about 3 hours later I mentioned this to someone and they said I was crazy and I realized that I hadn't read through wikipedia and just assumed the dates he was in power were his born by and dead by dates. I am so ashamed and furious at myself for this entire episode. One of you guys has to have had a similar SNAFU in their lives, right? Cheer me up and tell me your shameful stories. Also, bye bye Packers. Hooray!

Thank you. Now I know how to swear my ass off in sign language and I have a bizarre new internet crush.
How the hell did Seattle give up Pineda for that little? I don't care how good of a hitter Montero may be, he doesn't have a position and Pineda is an amazing young pitcher.
Just wait until you see the recap of blizzard photos, the Holofrost. Dude, it's a pun, settle down.
Exactly what I was thinking. I also don't understand how anyone can be remotely surprised about this. War is, and always has been, the absolute worst thing we do as a species. There was a piece on Vice today that says pretty much exactly how I feel about this far more eloquently, check it out. [www.vice.com]
Pork DUAN:

A while ago I bough an obscene amount of ground pork to make some meatballs. I thought I was going to double the recipe but once I started cooking I realized that was a ludicrous idea. So I'm trying to get rid of this pork. So far I have made pot stickers, szechwan string beans, ants crawling on the tree (ground pork served in lettuce cups), and a different meatball recipe. Yet the pork seems to keep replicating and I will never get rid of it. I was wondering if anyone had a good recipe they could pass along. I know a couple of other Chinese dishes that use it but the girlfriend is getting a little irritated with all the Chinese food I've been making since I got a wok for Christmas. Thoughts?

Oh, I sorry. Here you go.
I know I'm real late to the party but I wanted to discuss something with all ya'll. I'm a punker. I'm from Chicago. Due to this I love the Lawrence Arms far more than any one ever should. They're our hometown drunks so we always welcome them with open arms. What other band do the rest of your treat the same way? [www.youtube.com]
Keep reading the books they get phenomenal around volume 6 of the trade paperbacks. Currently I think they have been going on for too long but I still keep reading them.
