Ignoring the fact that the operating procedures for the Concorde were to have vehicles sweep the runway before every takeoff looking for objects because they knew the plane was super-vulnerable to FOD. They didn't do it before that takeoff, so they didn't find the piece of titanium that sent the plane down. But sure, it was 100% Continental's fault when your goal is to place the blame on anyone but yourselves...
Because stealing is OK? I do think the reaction is overblown, but you're giving her a free pass. It's one thing to take a shovel in a moment of need to dig yourself out and then RETURN it, but to take it and then just ditch it? Sorry, that gets me NO sympathy.
I'm sure that was a lot of fun to drive in a straight line with the top down and your favorite person in the seat next to you...but the nostalgia for it has to stop there because it's just that...nostalgia. It's not an exceptional anything anymore.
@bryancohnracing: Sorry, but that line is and always has been horse$#!+. It's spoken by the jockeys who ride the machine, not by the folks who design them to do their job and do it fast. Remember folks, engineers build things. Everyone else just has an opinion.
@diskreet: It's even simpler than that. Liquid oxygen is simply much denser than liquid hydrogen, much as is th ecase in gaseous form. For the most efficient ratio of propellant to oxidant, you simply need more volume to carry a certain amount of LH2 than you for the same amount of LOX.
@blackcat13: Remind me to come beat your ass someday, as a way of thanking you for your appreciation of my hard work.
@meatbag_pussrocket: Agree. "Unlicensed" and "stolen" are two different things. Even the law agrees with that.
You oppose unemployment? You know that you paid for that unemployement on your own, right? Part of the money you pay in taxes is to support your own unemployment needs should they arise. It may not be much, but its still yours. (Welfare is a different kettle.)
Sean Penn approves of that detention. He won't fly American anymore.
@twistedsymphony: The did say up front that this would be limited by availability of the actual cars. They don't just draw them up, they go to the car, do modeling in 3d space, record the engine. It's hardcore.

That said, I find the Starion and Syclone hard to fathom. There had to be good working examples available somewhere in the US for this, no? *sigh* I'll buy it anyway, but I won't enjoy it quite as much.
Does this mean I've been reading Jalop for too long? I feel like once I'm around for "the comeback" it means too much time has gone by...
With you right up to the 458. You're now preaching esthetics over function. I want my go-fast car to go-fast. F1 gearboxes FTW.
@MarkKelsosMigraine: Except that some people will insist on telling you that back in the 50's, they really knew how to wield an ice-pick the way it was meant to be used. None of this precision-kill stuff. It was all sweet swings and beautiful gore. Tommy from Goodfellas? An artist with the pick. Not like todays commentators. You make me laugh. You're a funny guy.
@Pete Gaines: Thanks for doing your job and honoring us. Today is about folks like you. (There is no Internet BS/Sarcasm there.)

That said, don't go around shitting on other people's graves. It's just as disrespectful, even if their life wasn't as nobly spent.
If you listen to car commercials on sports talk radio and other outlets here, you'd love him. He's the only original, non-annoying spot you'll hear. He tries and usually succeeds in being funny, and you pay attention when his ads are on just to see what he's gonna say this time. Silly, sure...but it's damn hard for a car dealer to get people to pay attention anymore. He earned his #1 spot.
@Tentacle: Oh no doubt that they've moved the bar, but amore to the point: A lot of Russian rocketry advances put simplicity ahead of weight and power.

Now to be sure, simplicty and reliability are priceless when protecting your investment (lives and rubles) is what is at stake...but when the stakes are racing to the moon, weight is king. I remember reading about the development of the Saturn V first stage. If I recall, they said 1kg of weight in that stage had the same result as saving 100kg in the command module. The RD-170 of the same era as the F1 weighed 1500kg more, EACH. A cluster of 5 would have added 7.5 tons to the weight of the craft...and then there'd be no moon shot.
Wasn't there a study recently that even among hard-core smartphone users, there is an average of 4-5 apps that are core to any user's experience. The apps differ depending on the person, but only real super-taskers use 20 apps regularly.

Many users HAVE more apps of course, but real use is limited to a set few that are well done and have good purpose. That needs to be the goal of an App Store.
@MarcusMaximus: Wonder if s/he still drives a Model T Ford?
