@masterdingo: Opening up a whole new can of worms, there is similar arguments to be made in the case of modification of guns.
In order to comply with law, guns that in military hands have an option for automatic fire are sold to the public without that option. In many cases it's an easy mod to make them fully automatic.
Should those who modify the guns be held as criminals?
What about if the person the gave it to only uses it to shoot targets at his trailer in the stix?
What if the person he modded it for uses it to shoot up his post office?
I don't have a good answer, although it's tough to argue against the fact that in the cases of guns and Xboxes the modder is facilitating someone elses breaking of the law.
@Dr.Preston!: I'm pretty sure seeing iPad users in Utah disproves my hypothesis about conservatives being in the minority.
Beyond the snark though, I'm not implying that I want liberal bias. I requested more centrist editorial content (ie not "news"). Of course news should strive for less bias, but editorial content is by definition opinionated.
@solomonrex: French solution: find secret nuclear reactors, build massive defensive structures that prove absolutely useless, go on strike, get blown up then get saved by America an UK.
I imagine I'm in the minority of iPad owners who have an even mild conservative slant. Most of us guys/gals wouldn't touch your politics and newspapers with a ten foot pole (WSJ excluded). You're going to need to resist every root instinct you have when putting together this paper, so I'm going to give you some tips about how to sell to a market that's begging for a subscription iPad paper.
Automatically push the paper to the iPad when it's released every morning. It's a non-starter without this.
Comics! I can't stress this enough. And I don't mean fucking Cathy.
Do not hire a new group of your typical News Corp types to stock the editorial staff. You have plenty of right-wing kooks spouting opinion already, Rupert. Enough of your crazies will have staff jobs in the new congress, no need for you to afirmative action them onto my iPad. Bring in the best editorials each day from your other properties and hire some more centrist guys for the Daily. The overlapp between assualt rifle owners and iPad buyers isn't as large as you might think.
Page 6, as is, every day. Just reprint it right in there. Maybe add some mild nudity.
Give us articles we can't get other places. The fifteeth piece on Bristol Palin, Eva Longoria and the British royal wedding has about as much value as used toilet paper. Used for number two. How about some humorists, or long-form stuff? Expirement. It's not like you can't spare the space.
@EdHardyMustBeDestroyed: Wait did you just complain about tube tops? Why not just add thong bikinis and drinking outside to your list of why summer sucks.
Some weeks prior to the 'overdose' incident a couple of years ago, one of my good friends parked Isiah's car at a Westchester NY country club (he was a valet there obviously). In plane sight was a (his words) "giant" bag of blow sitting right in the center console.
@maese_tote: And because Solar only shines during the day (with few exceptions as shown in the post), you need to have backup thermal generation for night time and cloudy days, another hidden cost.
On the plus side it doesn't create a highly toxic byproduct that we have no where to store, nor does it present the (even very small risk) of a meltdown that could affect generations of people in its immediate area.
