I've never seen this at any other MLS game like Seattle whose games are 2x the size of Portland's with supporters groups (ECS, Gorilla FC) who are 2x the size of Portland's and created teh most mind-blowing tifo you've ever seen and I'm just typing a run-on sentence because you are obviously as good at watching MLS as I am at writing.
This article should be titled "Things I learned in my first real job."
If any of this linguistic whitewashing is new to you, 1) Congratulations on your first day of Business 101, and 2) Having a manager who uses such an approach is not such a bad thing... it means you work for a company who values (at worst, on surface) the experience and interaction with its employees.
Some call it "corporate doublespeak", but in truth this is the result of any successful company built on the pillars of being a 'corporate family' and not simply a corporation. It's the only way to keep the fun feel and still adhere to HR policies and typical corporate politics, even at the store level.
