<![CDATA[drjayphd commented on A Complete List Of Starbucks Locations That Will Be Closing]]> @Kaisum: You wanna see crammed, the one in Southington's on a foot and a half square (may be slightly exaggerated) lot next to an interstate. You have to drive all the way around it just to park, there's maybe 10 spots, and there's only one way in or out (the lot's higher than the entrance road), which is MAYBE two card widths wide.

And yet, it's doing pretty well. Hunh.

<![CDATA[drjayphd commented on A Complete List Of Starbucks Locations That Will Be Closing]]> Considering some of the locations of the CT ones that're set to wither and die, it's hardly surprising.

Windsor Locks is right near the airport, but nowhere NEAR being along the way (it's near the tail end of all the long-term parking places, etc.), and Coldstone already closed their store there. Only tenant in that strip mall's Quizno's, and I can't imagine they'd be long for it. East Windsor's only other tenant in THAT strip mall's a credit union. Strangely, both of 'em have drive-thru, so there goes that theory.

South Windsor's in one of them "lifestyle center" faux-downtown malls. There's not a whole lot of coffee-only competition, but there is an Atlanta Bread Company there (oddly, the only one left in the state). Then again, it's right near Manchester, where they just built a new one (with drive-thru), so take that as you will.

Fairfield's near Fairfield University, but it's also a pain the ass to get in and out; it's right near a light, on the wrong side of the street (if traffic's backed up at a red light, you ain't gettin' in or out), and Kings Highway's pretty busy. Don't know about Hartford, but my friend goes there and says "everyone there's so nice".

But as far as I know offhand, South Windsor's the only one that might be considered closing redundant stores. The rest of these probably just aren't pulling their weight, and seeing as they can't legally invade Dunkin Donuts... ;)

<![CDATA[drjayphd commented on Top 10 Computer Annoyances and How to Fix Them]]> #4 would've come in handy when my hard drive went tits-up and I had to use a fresh install of XP to save everything. Only file I couldn't move to the external drive was the ISO of "Dark Side of the Rainbow"... which probably had more to do with it being over 4GB and the hard drive was FAT32. -_-

]]>
<![CDATA[drjayphd commented on Are You Living Beyond Your Means?]]> @Julia789: Whereabouts? I'm in central CT and can't afford much more than $500/month for rent and utilities. Ergo, housing's 0% of my monthly income (thanks, Mom and Dad)...

<![CDATA[drjayphd commented on A List Of Starbucks Stores That Will Close By The End Of The Month]]> @Javert: Yeah, the astounding thing here isn't the people mocking a company that provides for their employees, it's commenters actively cheering for people losing their jobs. <![CDATA[drjayphd commented on Is This $0.10 Credit/Debit Surcharge On Gasoline Allowed?]]> @linbey: Because credit surcharges lead to false advertising. If you advertise the cash price, someone pulls in, and sees that they'll be charged more for using a credit card, people will be pissed. Not so much if you advertise the higher credit price and offer a cash discount. Same thing, just a question of semantics and psychology.

Although I still won't patronize a station that does this if it's not an absolute emergency... kinda funny that the Hess station down the road from the office charges the same amount as nearby stations if you pay cash...

I don't know, maybe I'm just strange when I think businesses should be open as long as their posted hours say they are.

<![CDATA[drjayphd commented on A List Of Starbucks Stores That Will Close By The End Of The Month]]> @coren: The difference being that this is in a major city. ]]>
<![CDATA[drjayphd commented on A List Of Starbucks Stores That Will Close By The End Of The Month]]> @sean77: Precisely. Wake me when you can hit three Starbucks in a two-mile stretch, or six just going down the same street in the same town.

@Jim (The Canuck One): And yet, the Canuckistanis are invading New England. Very slowly... but rather politely.

]]>
<![CDATA[drjayphd commented on A List Of Starbucks Stores That Will Close By The End Of The Month]]> @katylostherart: Not just that, but the three that were allegedly Marked for Death (tm) were up in north-central CT. East Windsor, Windsor Locks (near, and yet simultaneously nowhere near, Bradley), and South Windsor (which is in one of them lifestyle center thingies). The first two looked to be doing just fine when I was there, so who knows how accurate that map is.

At some point, aesthetics have to enter into the equation.

<![CDATA[drjayphd commented on Track Rumored Starbucks Closings]]> Either the map's inaccurate or Starbucks is really overdoing it with the redundancy. ;)

I went by the two CT stores that are marked for death, and the Windsor Locks one is a hell of a lot closer to Bradley, while the East Windsor one's on route 5, not just off of it. Those seem like kind of odd towns to double-dip, so maybe they just moved to better locations (with drive-thru)?
