Peace out DUAN! Enjoy Conan and Pearl Jam tonight ya'll.
@ClintonPortishead: Damn it, no they aren't. I saw them open for Radiohead last summer though and they were fantastic.

Opening this show is a band called Dirty Projectors. Have you heard of them? I haven't.

@Artie Fufkin: The venue they're playing isn't huge. It's a concert hall that can hold about 2,300 people. So it's not a stadium but it's also not a tiny hole-in-the-wall pub which would be damn cool.
@ClintonPortishead: Yeah, that's what I figured. Had a similar experience with the Mars Volta. They put on a killer show but some of the dynamics of the music didn't really show. That and they were opening for the Chili Peppers and at least half the people in the crowd were just looking around with "who the fuck are these guys" looks.
Going to see TV on the Radio on Wednesday. Has anyone seen them live? Do they live up to the albums?
@Sean Avery's Dating Service: You could be right, and you are right on the money about defensive discipline. It was painful watching them against Boston this year, just awful. I saw them live against San Jose in February at the Bell Center and while the Habs won the game, it was pure luck. They were clearly outmatched and absolutely needed something to give.

I liked Carbonneau though and I think he was shit-canned way too soon. In most of pro sports these days the players aren't held accountable for anything, it's always the coach and I hate that.

I'll give Martin a shot, I have to. I'm stuck in my cement footings of being a Habs fan.

@Sean Avery's Dating Service: Shit, you're right. Doesn't change my apprehension about him. Then again all my Senators fan friends bitched about him every chance they got the whole time he coached them so maybe I've been polluted.
@Owen's Hard Greaves: He's that young go getter from corporate right?
Montreal fires Michel Therrien: Hooray!

Montreal hires Claude Julien: Um, okay.

Montreal fires Julien: Sure, why not.

Montreal hires Guy Carbonneau: Sweet.

Montreal fires Carbonneau for no good reason: Damn it to hell!

Montreal hires Jacques Martin, a guy who has never taken a team deep in the playoffs after being bounced in the first round: Fuck me running!

@Sense_da_Merger: Nono, his reputation has only just expanded to Canada.
@Karlifornia: I just watched Jigoku a couple weeks ago. Showed it to a bunch of friends. Some liked it, others laughed uncomfortably.

I thought it was pretty sweet and dark especially for 1960. Sure the effects are pretty bad but that's understandable.

Criterion is king.

And I say goodnight to DUAN as Neil Young's Helpless comes on random on my computer. Goodnight, and good luck to us all.
@FirstDerivative: Wasn't his fault though...as per usual.
@toledostripper: It's best not to take it out first.
@Peter Cavan: But the Baroque Cycle is worth going at? That's good to know, ever since I read The Dark Tower and Hitch-hiker's Guide I've been looking for a new series to sink my teeth into.
@PrettyPrettyPrincess: Conceptually it sounds up my alley. I should check it out at some point. As you could probably tell, I have read a limited amount of sci-fi as the list I posted pretty much sums up the ones I liked that I have read (unless you count Kurt Vonnegut at sci-fi).

I am all over the place with what I read. I'm reading Michael Chabon's Gentlemen of the Road at the moment and will then go into Bill Bryson's A Brief History of Almost Everything. Opposite ends of the spectrum...I like to keep things fresh, heh.

But if I want to get into more sci-fi, which I do, what would you recommend?

@Peter Cavan: I know what you mean. I tend to go for walks with whatever book I'm reading just in case I find a nice spot to stop and read. Carrying Cryptonomicon made me feel like my arm was going to fall off.

I just bought Snow Crash, have you read it?

@ACMEsalesrep: Yeah, it makes me want to leave for a while and come back. I'm probably just so accustomed to it all that it seems bland. When I was working for a local paper last year I did see some places I never would have gone other wise and saw some great scenery (in New Brunswick).
@PrettyPrettyPrincess: I've only read American Gods so far and I loved every second of it. He has a good flow to him.

Sci-fi eh? If you haven't read any of the following, do it:

Neuromancer by William Gibson
Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip Dick
Hitch-hiker's guide trilogy in five parts by Douglas Adams (you probably have already read these)

Those books are amazing, especially Cryptonomicon which is more about codebreaking and WW2 but there's a fantastical element and swashbuckling in it too. Great adventure/fantasy/sci fi mix.

@J.R. Brown: Ah, where did you hit up when you were here?

Going solo could be cool. Go deep into the woods to a cabin somewhere for a while. That's of course if you have access to one. As long as you're not traveling by bus you should be in good shape.
