This morning, Sports Illustrated’s Michael McCann reported that Josh Hamilton’s fractious relationship with the Angels is nearing an end. But McCann’s examination of MLB precedent and contract law led him to the conclusion that the Angels can’t merely cut Hamilton for his drug-and-alcohol relapse.

Now reports are flooding out from MLB reporters that Hamilton will be leaving via trade. [Update: It might be to the Rangers. See below.]

Things seem complicated, though:

What team would trade for Josh Hamilton, who isn’t healthy, doesn’t appear to be a very good baseball player anymore, and is still owed $83 million through 2017? (The real question, I guess, is how much cash the Angels are willing to throw in to get Hamilton off their hands.)

Update: Everyone says it’s the Rangers.
