"Elation now" crowed the Sacramento Bee when the Maloof Brothers, David Stern, and Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson emerged from lockdown negotations with a plan to build a new arena and keep the Kings from moving to Anaheim. The plan was a good one, as far as publically funded stadiums go: the team and the arena owner would kick in, and the $255 million Sacramento was on the hook for would be paid from parking revenues, not any new taxes. The Maloof brothers are determined to move their basketball team to Anaheim. But Kevin Johnson, the mayor of broke-ass Sacramento, isn't having it, not unless the Maloofs first pay off the $77 million they owe. So Sacramento fired off a snippy letter to Anaheim (see below). This is correspondence from the Robert Moses school of municipality planning, but the upshot of it is: The Maloofs will be moving from one money-sucking situation to another money-sucking situation after the NBA hits them with what will likely be a minimum $30 million relocation fee. The Bulls keep winning — they beat Sacramento by 40 points last night in Chicago — and have earned the franchise's first 50-win season since the 1998 title year. They've been so good not only because their point guard is Derrick Rose, a candidate for the league MVP, but also because their team chemistry is such that someone like Keith Bogans can lead the fast break while Rose swoops down the sideline and springs for an alley-oop like this one. The most impressive replay on this clip is the third shot we see — in full speed from above, Rose's ascent is so rapid that it's a wonder he doesn't careen directly into the backboard.
