This is a hockey love story.
Tieja MacLaughlin, 25, is a TV and print sports reporter based in Kelowna, B.C. Jackson Playfair, 19, is the son of NHL player and coach Jim Playfair, nephew of Larry Playfair, and a winger for the WHL's Tri-City Americans in Kennewick, Wash. The two have been in a relationship since July, but, Playfair told police, "it has been a rocky one." No kidding.
According to the Tri-City Herald, MacLaughlin discovered on Friday that Playfair had been seeing someone else. She called him and told him she was driving down to see him, and the police report says she said "he would be dead by the end of the night."
Police intercepted MacLaughlin at a Kennewick hotel and warned her not to contact Playfair. She promised to head back to Canada. She did not. The next day, (presumably after this ominous tweet), she told Playfair to meet her at her hotel. He informed the police, who showed up and arrested MacLaughlin.
MacLaughlin appeared in court yesterday, where she faces charges of felony threats. She's been ordered to have no contact with Playfair, and is being held without bail.
