We didn't get to pay much tribute yesterday to Brad Lidge losing his closer's job already, but hey, it's never too late to show that video from the 2005 NLCS. It's OK to toss this in, it's not rubbing it in, because the Astros won that series. Right?
We appreciated The Dugout's recent take on Lidge, and even this recent YouTube ode to Lidge. Our favorite part about the Lidge saga is that everyone always insists, no, he's fine, really. Just has some bugs to work out. Totally.

We'll take him on the Reds. He's got to be better than 54 year old David Weathers.
YES! Love this video! This is Will rewarding me for calling Cards fans smartest and nicest in the thread last night!
Wow. He absolutely grooved that pitch. Neifi Perez could have hit that pitch out.
Will, you forgot the 'schadenfreude' tag.
Game 6: Astros 5, Cardinals 1
MVP: Roy Oswalt
Oh, yeah, the Cardinals had a good day though... the Astros were just too busy *winning*
(and yes, Lidge was not allowed within 100 yards of the pitching mound that day, thanks for asking)
That was a sweet hit. At the time, this Tigers fan didn't realize that the Cards would become his nemesis, but man, that was quite a game.
Seriously, Mike Hampton will be ready for 2008 spring training.
It's not enough we suck, you have to twist the knife? Is this payback for the Astros beating the Cards 1 game out of 3?
Also, just give him a couple of weeks in middle relief... he'll be right as rain! Honest!
Byung Hyun Kim feels Lidge's pain.
@Lady Andrea: LA, we're supposed to be kissing your ass, not the other way around.
That's just not nice Will, not nice at all.
@Diddly: So does Mark Wohlers
@Suss--: He's had more setbacks than Barbaro. Someone needs to go ahead and take Hampton out.
I think Lidge needs to try the Clemens approach for a game or two - aim a couple 96 mph fastballs right at someone's head/shoulder...
no one will "sit" on his pitches after that. Intimidation factor will return.
Problem is - Lidge is too nice a guy.
Chuck Knoblauch should also have his bugs worked out soon.
So the pitch that was invented to try and stop Cal Ripken Jr isn't good?
I hate to be a dick but I called this weeks ago.
@grungedave: His problem is that the Pujols and Podsednik homers have him seeing ghosts, and he's been scared ever since.
Oh Brad...
It's the ghost of Donnie Moore on line one...
The Dugout has a nice riff on Hampton's "setback".
I love that website.
Mr. Lidge, Donnie Moore on line 1...
@Keep Your Sox On: Damn you!
@Hank Scorpio: well, you guys can. But Will does not. He just rewards me for good behavior.
It kills me for the guy. He was a force of nature until that pitch.
I remember being about four blocks from the stadium that night: the whole bar was chanting "Two More Strikes" and was ready to go out and be retarded on Main St. until 3am, and then dead silence when Pujols connected.
I've been told that the stadium got quiet so quickly that you could hear the ball hit the glass wall above the train.
More likely to ever come down: that home run, or Maradona?
the bigger insult to Lidge is that I dumped him for Torres already
I wonder if the Astros are still feeling bad about letting Billy Wagner go...
At this point in time I wouldn't even trust Lidge to toss out newspapers. I have a feeling that he'll never be "right" again unless he gets out of Houston.
@Jerkwheat: I just did that too!
For the next post, Andrea politely requests Jimmy E's 2004 catch against Reds' catcher Jason LaRue. Thank you.
I'm still of the opinion that the HR Lidge gave up to Mr. Lisa Dergan in the WS is far more damaging to him than the Pujols moonshot.
@Jerkwheat: @Lady Andrea:
I got Torres at the expense of Julio. Nothing like flailing in last place one week into the season!
@Suss--: SOLD OUT
@Diddly: Byung Hyun Kim has a ring, no?
@Lady Andrea:
LA, it's here, under July 16: http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/multimedia/tp_archive.jsp...
@Reasonable Doubt for a Reasonable Price: That is just hilarious, they've outdone themselves.
Seriously, he hasn't thrown a pitch for three years. How is hurting his elbow, by pleasuring himself too much?
speaking of current and former Houston sports stars...
Warren Moon just pulled a Tony LaRussa:

@SagerBombs: my 2-12-1 record last week informed of the need for change. Also screw tWWL for not allowing me to bring Burnett off the bench to start yesterday - even though it was still 8 hours before his start.
Seriously Will, this is pretty cold-hearted.
But good lord was that HR an absolute JACK, it gives me the shakes just watching it.
@Slothrop: my new favorite commenter!!!! The child-like glee with which Edmonds lands on the field is what really makes that highlight.
Lights On!
Slider, ball, slider, ball, sliderball, slideball, sliball, slball, sball, ball, HR, ball, ball, ball, ball HR, foul, ball, ball, ball, HR, ball, foul, foul HR, HR, HR, HR, bring in Qualls/Wheeler. So long, Springer.
@Jerkwheat:
ESPN has apologized profusely for the massive errors to their fantasy programming. They're fantasy players too, you know! As a token of their appreciation, please accept this complimentary upgrade to FANTASY EDGE, as well as a canned ham and a derogatory comment from The Herd. Thank you, come again.
@Nationalcoholic: Asshole. I really thought the yankees were going to win that series.
@Jerkwheat: ESPN fantasy, just like everything else that shitty website produces, sucks absolute donkey balls.
@Diddly:
I thought 116 wins would mean we'd get past the Yankees. Turns out not so much.
@Lady Andrea: ESPN is to sports what MTV is to music.
@SagerBombs: Schrutebag?
@Nationalcoholic: that should be an SAT Verbal question.
I think Lidge could have theoretically recovered from the Pujols homer -- I mean, the guy is the best hitter in baseball, these things happen.
But then he gave up one in the World Series to Scott "I hit exactly zero home runs in the regular season that year" Podsednik.
Somewhere, Steve Blass is laughing
@Nationalcoholic: He might actually have 2.
I'm not sure if the Red Sox gave him one too.
Where were you bastards with the Lidge sucks completley articles before the season in the Deadspin Fantasy Baseball Preview perhaps? Perhaps before I drafted him and Jorge Julio and now appear to be left with only one closer. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
That is one of the most memorable homeruns of my entire baseball watching lifetime and I hate both those teams with a passion. Pujols did the baseball equivalent of sexually brutalizing Lidge. He should just move to the valley, start pumping out films and blame his father for everything.
