Notes from a day in baseball:
• 1. Free Willy. So, is Ozzie Guillen on double-secret probation now? According to Bud Selig and White Sox GM Ken Williams, he is. And as if the Baseball Gods were testing the manager's new restraints, Chicago erased an eight-run deficit against the Astros on Sunday, only to lose in 13 innings, 10-9. Houston avoided a three-game sweep and broke the White Sox's nine-game winning streak. Tadahito Iguchi tied it with two out in the ninth with a grand slam, but Willy Taveras' RBI single in the 13th won it for Houston.
• 2. Somewhere Up There, Harry Caray is Mispronouncing Justin Morneau. Not even the return of Derek Lee could roust the Cubs from hibernation, Chicago suffering an 8-1 loss to the Twins as Minnesota registered a three-game sweep. Brad Radke threw seven shutout innings, and the Twins won their 14th of the past 16. Minnesota still trails first-place Detroit by 11 games, though.
• 3. We're Not Worthy! Jose Reyes went 4-for-5 for the second straight day, and Carlos Beltran had a three-run home run (his 20th) as the Mets beat the Blue Jays 7-4. Reyes extended his hitting streak to 13 games and is hitting.561 over his past 57 at-bats.
• 4. He Just Keeps Rollin' Along. Combined, they've hit 731 career homers — take that, Barry Bonds — and individually they're pretty impressive as well. Ken Griffey Jr. hit career homer No. 549 and Adam Dunn, well ... you do the math ... also had a homer to lead the Reds over the Indians 4-2. Griffey passed Mike Schmidt for No. 11 on the all-time list.
• 5. Livan Sells Cartoon Balloons In Town. Livan Hernandez won for the first time in four starts, and Royce Clayton had a three-run double to lead the Nationals over the Orioles 9-5. Hernandez, by the way, credits a midnight showing of the movie Tourismo the night before the game as the inspiration for his win. Um, OK.
(Oh, and the Cardinals haven't played in a week. Fancy that.)

Oh sure, the O's take 2 of 3 but you have to go and harp on their one loss! Also, the Mets HAVE to start losing. I am friends with waaaaaaaaaaay too many Mets fans to deal with them winning this much. And finally, Stupid Angelos
Who is this imposter playing shortstop for the Mets and what have they done with the REAL Jose Reyes? He's already passed his 2005 walks and homerun totals and is on pace to break the team single season run scoring record. I hate the Mets!
Fucking Dan Wheeler. All he had to do was walk Iguchi and I would've had a 10-4 FBBL week shellacking win. One pitch, I end up tied for the week and dropping to fourth. Fucking Dan Wheeler.
Can MLB move the Mariners to the NL West, kind of like when the Seahawks got bumped to the NFC? The M's took 2 of 3 from the Whale's Vagina Fathers to raise their interleague record to 10-2. Richie Sexson went 5-for-5 with two homers in yesterday's win, doubling the number of hits he's gotten the entire year. Fun fact: The M's and Pads combined to hit 14 homers at Petco this weekend -- and all of them were solo shots.
Really? You don't want to talk about Curtis Granderson some more? (Saw the man in Triple-A last year. Knew once he hit the majors, he was gonna be the balls.)
Fucking Cubs...I can't even get the slightest bit excited about this anymore. Ugh.
re: The Cleveland Indians (throws rope over beam, makes sure the knot is good and tight; puts head in noose) Anyone want to give the chair a good kick?
The WP told me Livan saw Waist Deep and I just don't get the Tourismo reference, so I am completely missing the funny. Fuck! Not a good start to the day.
YES! There's a Mets backlash, meaning we're finally a real team! Brad Lidge was a great young closer.
I love seeing Mets backlash! Can the Mets play the rest of their schedule on the road???
cardinals start free-falling in standings when the HGH story breaks...hmmmm, and tony larussa is starting to look like a cocoon-era brian dehenney....
The Cardinals slide has nothing to do with HGH, and everything to do with sucky pitching. Sidney Ponson needs not of "HGH" when lard is perfectly legal over the counter.
as soon as the Stros went up 9-1 I told my roommate, if they blow this I will refrain from watching them the rest of the season (i'm from Htown, btw)...he told me I'd better watch what I say, because he would hold me to it...long story short, i get to watch the stros for the rest of the season, although now i don't know if thats a good thing...i keep waiting for Drayton to call me up and say, how would you like to pitch for us...i've been practicing how I would snap my neck around after my 70 mph 2 seamer was destroyed by Pujols, watching it slowly drop over the train tracks and calling for a new ball from the ump...
Those of you expecting the Astros - White Sox game are watching bonus coverage of game 2 of the Yankees - Marlins game. Gee, thanks ESPN. Thanks so fucking much. What a wonderful bonus that was. Glad that you finally cut away from a boring 5-0 game in front of 100 people at Yankee stadium to the Sox game AFTER Gooch's 7 RBI.
verlander for rookie of the year
