Blogdom's Best: San Antonio Spurs

spurslogo.jpgIt might not — yet — have the online fanaticism and cachet of baseball, but the NBA and its fans are starting to catch up in the world of team-devoted blogs. To this end, Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each NBA team. There are fewer than there are for baseball, but they're out there, if you look. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours, even) for selection, just let us know at tips@deadspin.com. Today: The San Antonio Spurs.

We'll admit it, we've never really thought of San Antonio as an NBA town. Or a sports town, for that matter. When we think of San Antonio, we think of John Wayne lighting a torch and running into the ammunition shed, and Richard Widmark as Jim Bowie. But of course, San Antonio is an NBA town; its fans are among the most devoted anywhere. And when they win championships (three since 1999), these fans take to the streets and celebrate quietly — no rioting. And they only use "safe and sane" fireworks, we hear.

But you can talk all you want about David Robinson and Tim Duncan, to us the Spurs will always mean George "Ice Man" Gervin. That's just the way it is. Now, on to the blogdome, which, for a team with three recent NBA championships, quite frankly could be better:

3. Pounding the Rock. A great blog which seems to be ending, for reasons which are shrouded in mystery. Hope to see you back soon, Pounding.
2. Spurs Central. Not so much a blog as it is a comprehensive Spurs site, and that's OK. Seems to have good original content, plus a lof of features.
1. Four Quarters. The gameday blog of the Project Spurs Web site. The best spot on the web for Spurs fans we've seen.

  • www.spursreport.com is a great bulletin board

  • Unsilent Majority at 01:49 PM on 01/24/06

even the spurs blogs are about as exciting as a VHS copy of Bruce Bowen's Introduction to the Defensive Stance

  • Projectspurs is the best! You guys picked a winner in ranking Projectspurs website num 1. With a podcast, blog, forum, and a chat room no wonder it is better than Spurscentral and Pounding the Rock. Oh and Spursreport.com sucks.
