Your Final Four is set: Bruins, Tigers, Gators, and Patriots. We've got three ferocious animals and a dead white guy who once did something historic that you'd know about if you paid attention in history class.
And if you had LSU, UCLA, George Mason, and Florida in your bracket, you either sold your soul to the devil, or you just filled it out a couple minutes ago. I refuse to believe otherwise.
Florida's big men had their way with Villanova, helping them punch their ticket to Indianapolis with a 75-62 win over the Wildcats. But I think the bigger factor was Villanova's poor shooting. They've beaten teams with good big men before. But they can't do it when they shoot under 25% from the floor, and 4-of-23 from behind the 3-point line. They didn't seem themselves today.
So we've got a little bit of everything in the Final Four, except, you know... anyone you expected to be here. We've got the media darlings in Glen Davis and Joakim Noah, the tradition and history of UCLA, and the biggest underdog story in college basketball history. Can't ask for much more than that. Not to go all Daily Quickie on you, but this has been the best tournament ever, and it can only get better.

the way GMU's playing, is it too far fetched to say that they can win it all?
Now this is going to be a great one, The Florida Gators from the humidity laced land of wet shunshine mixed with a couple kilo's of yayo. Against the once thought of Underdogs George Mason University hailing from the land of Political Satire, Romanesque Buildings, and Law clamping stylings. Now this is what it's all about... Long Live Deadspin!
Three people out of like, 2.5 million in ESPN's bracket challenge had the entire final four right. Even though that's less than .0005% of all entries, it still seems like they had to have cheated in some way.
My picks are GMU and LSU. Some history behind George Mason from Wikipedia: "Mason was appointed in 1786 to represent Virginia as a delegate to a Federal Convention, to meet in Philadelphia for the purpose of revising the Articles of Confederation. He served at the Federal Convention in Philadelphia from May to September 1787 and contributed significantly to the formation of the Constitution. However, he would not sign the Constitution for a number of reasons; the very first of his objections was that the original Constitution failed to contain a "declaration of rights". Mason continued to agitate for the addition of a bill of rights to the Constitution after the convention. This agitation cost Mason his long friendship with George Washington, and is probably a leading reason why George Mason became less well-known than other U.S. founding fathers in later years. On December 15, 1791, the U.S. Bill of Rights, based primarily on George Mason's Virginia Declaration of Rights, was ratified in response to the agitation of Mason and others."
I had two out of the final four in one of my bullshit brackets that I did for the hell of it, and I'm in ESPN's 99.9th percentile. Any other year, two out of the final four would put me in the same general region as the secretary who picks teams based on their colors. Craziest tournament I can remember. I really wouldn't be shocked if GMU won it.
i had ucla and florida. i don't see how anyone could have had GMU, unless they went or go there and just played the homer card. worked out pretty well, i suppose. i'm a gator guy myself, so that's why i had them. though it wasn't nearly as far fetched at GMU.
I usually have one team in the final four remaining. This year, I had none.
nice to see that the big east is properly represented.
My bracket was f'ed in the a when Iowa fucked up.
That Gator cheerleader is in serious need of the glazed donut face.
Based on the above photos and watching games, I'm taking Florida's cheerleaders as the hottest of them all, so- Wait, was that off topic?
U.M., Consider it done.
Speaking of the Daily Quickie, what are the odds of Dan Shanoff throwing out the phrase, "greatest upset of the ESPN Era"? Given that he's the Dwight Schrute of ESPN, I'd say they're quite high.
Just an FYI - apparently that kid from Florida is the son of tennis great Ille Nastase.
