Fascinating interview yesterday with the beautifully thighed Tim Hardaway and his "old pal" Scoop Jackson. Say what you will about Jackson, but this is one of those times when his friendliness with athletes works to his advantage; it's a wide-ranging, full-access interview that doesn't tip-toe around Hardaway, despite their friendship. And you almost have to admire Hardaway by the end of it; he might be a moron, but he's a gleefully unapologetic moron.
I should have just said that I wouldn't want to be on the same team with a gay person because I just don't think it's right for them to be on a team and the team not know that you are gay. ... Nothing happened to me. I just don't condone [being gay]. When I see gay people holding hands or kissing in the streets, I just don't think that's right.
It's a rather outstanding interview, and it's another of example of "the good Scoop." As for Hardaway, he just wants to make it clear that he doesn't "hate" gay people. He'd just rather they knock it off with the whole "humpin' dudes" business.

Comments
I'd also like to stop being 6 feet tall.
Mr. Hardaway, Fred Phelps is on line 2.
Tell me that he doesn't get a chubby when two hot chicks are kissing?
What!? No 'humpin' dudes" tag?
his "trust issue" talk is complete BS.
sighs...
Know how I know you're gay?
Your go by your nickname, and it's Scoop.
Tim, why don't we get you a Bobcat to help dig that hole a little deeper?
Moron.
sighs again...
still with this hardaway thing? really?
You know when we got a whopping we'd be like, "I hate my moms" or "I hate my dad," and at the time you really didn't hate them, but that was the word you used.
So Tim is defending himself with the same reasoning as a five year old?
"I don't hate gay people, I just, uh, what's another word for hate?"
@Rickey_Fitts: Some commenters aren't that original. Like the ones who like to quote song lyrics to show off their music knowledge...
Anyway, get used to it. I have.
Yeah, I get it, he doesn't like gay people. Having everyone discuss it doesn't make it less deplorable.
I'm just as sad about watching one of the lone bright spots in recent Warriors history totally destroy his credibility.
That's how they still feel about black men dating "our white women" in parts of Mississippi, Tim.
But there's no hate in people who think that. None at all.
Orange roundies look like testes, brotha.
Rask, you're right of course
The Scoop Jackson Syndrome- Now that I may be on my way out, why don't I do some decent writing?!
Can I add Tim to my buddies or would that give him the creeps?
We're 2 hours into the day and still nothing on the awesome brawl last night from the Sabres/Sens game? Did you see Ray Emery's smile as he squared up to fight Biron and then again before he got pounded by Peters? Hell, Emery was the only guy on Ottawa with balls enough to challenge anyone.
Oh wait, to fit in w/ everyone else (need to fit in so more people add me as a buddy):
Hoc-key?
Hardaway had credibility? Really?
The great thing about the interview is that Hardaway admits he would not be close with his 'boy' Scoop if Scoop came out of the closet. That's very Christian of you, Timmy. I'm a Catholic, but I LOVE the hypocrisy of the religious nuts.
Carl Everette doesn't believe in Tim Hardaway.
Nice Freudian slip in the title by the way Will.
Hey! Who are you calling 'Uncle Tom'!?
In these days of Deadspin [buddies], it's refreshing to go back and read a post that was written a full THREE "supermike"s ago.
The "hate bone" pretty much describes my sex life in college.
I mean, what 18-year old doesn't sublimate their aggression, frustration, and hatred thru the ol dingly dangly?
Midwest Coast Bias- thank you, ever so. You just made my morning. Great, great stuff.
God please kill her !
I hope she gets hit by a truck and die !
I hate her ! I hate her !
I hate her ! I hate her !
@ForTheShorties:
Great fight. Emery going at it with Buffalo's enforcer was awesome.
I said this yesterday, but I have to give Scoop props again for this question:
So in your mind do you want forgiveness or are you just going to try to get yourself straight?
@ForTheShorties:
Great fight. Would have loved to see the look on the Ottawa bench when they realized that Buffalo sent the goons out with the last line change as the home team, against their scoring line (SC1 v SC4 for those that just know video game hockey).
Nothing better than a goalie fight. Peters got tossed for the third man in on that, right?
And for that game to go to PS's? Nice...
@ForTheShorties:
great fun ... with his fight last night, and the cricket swing to lapierre's face, emery has suddenly become an enforcer.
@Dread Spin: I thought "hate bone" was a verb, not a noun. My mistake.
This is the part I find interesting -
Learning that gay people are really no different than a lot of other people. Learning that they work hard, they do things in the community, they are responsible for building parks, rec centers, providing safe environments for kids, just things I had never associated with them before.
This after he spoke about being raised to believe being gay was not right.
Why do I think little Timmy Hardway was raised to avoid gay people because they are all child molesters? Bad Parents Hardway... bad.
"I don't hate the gays. I just, you know, hate the disgusting perverted act that defines their gayness and can't stand to be around them in any setting."
Substitute "black" for "gay" in Hardaway's comments, and I'm sure there were a few southern governors who made similar arguments in the 1950s.
@Rickey_Fitts: You probably just should'nt have read this thread Champ.
look, i think it's gross when a guy and a girl kiss or hold hands in public, but i just center myself and get on with my day. i certainly don't hate hetero people for their audacity. if i can tolerate that gross shit, timmy hard should be able to also.
*shouldn't
(I find unsolicited advice works best when you have no grasp on punctuation or spelling. It comes across less bossy and threatening that way.)
@JebusHChrist: I find it interesting, actually. I've had people I thought were my friends react similarly when I confided in them, so it's not really that surprising...
@Rickey_Fitts: So when you say "friends" you mean "assholes"?
timmy hard should be able to also.
Timmy does not approve of being referred to in that way.
People really think this was a good interview? Sorry...I don't. If Scoop is that "tight" with Hardaway and a "serious" journalist, I want this question asked:
Tim, how would you feel if a white man said what you said (about homosexuals) about blacks?
I'm unaware of anyone asking Hardaway this question and I'd like to know why.
"I don't care if dudes are gay, just as long as they don't do it in the street, on the sidewalk, in the locker room, in their own houses, in public, in private, in the shower, on a train, in a box, with a fox, or in the butt. They can do it in hell, just as long as they ain't next to me."
@MDT: yeah dude... that link to the delonte deadspin post from last year is still just "supermike" and i was one of about 15 people that commented in that thread. that post today would have been 150 comments, easy.
it's the new and improved supermike - even more superer than ever!
Substitute "black" for "gay" in Hardaway's comments, and I'm sure there were a few southern governors who made similar arguments in the 1950s.
If you turn off the TV cameras and microphones, I'm sure there are southern governors that made that argument last week.
@JebusHChrist: Yeah pretty much...the thing that gets me is the hypocrisy Hardaway shows.
@The Claudine Longet Firearm Training Academy: That's an excellent point
Nothing happened to me!! I swear!! Really!! Honest!!! Stop staring!!!
"I Don't Have A Hate Bone In My Body"
Want one? Eh eh eh eh eh......
@The Claudine Longet Firearm Training Academy & RF - couldn't agree more. This is a Scoop at his jock-sniffing, sycophantic worst. Except this time, instead of his customary and relatively benign meathead brown nosing, he is lending legitimacy to hate by presenting it as "opinion". This piece is puffery at it's most sinister - and I SERIOUSLY question Will's judgement in praising it; even in a back handed fashion.
I don't remember in the song what part the hate bone is connected to
