So you don't have to sift through the whole document, we're gonna call out some key pages.
First, here's the memo from the MLBPAA telling them not to cooperate with the Mitchell Investigation.

Thanks for the memorandum

Translation: shut your trap.
Stop snitchin'.
Sigh. I hate it when Don Fehr sends me junk mail.
In an article in 2006, a similar story was recounted by Paxton Crawford, a pitcher
who was on the roster of the Boston Red Sox in 2000 and 2001. Crawford admitted to using
steroids and human growth hormone while with the Red Sox. He described an incident in which
syringes he had wrapped in a towel were spilled onto the floor of the Red Sox clubhouse, which
he said caused laughter among his teammates.
Genius
Too bad Larry Bigbie can't read.
Gene Upshaw thinks you should talk.
Snitches get stitches

In what section was the use of elk semen discussed?
Heh. Weiner.
So, if we pay for membership in the MLB Alumni Association, will we get all future memos of this type?
@Len Bias Cocaine Surplus: Don't lecture me about the complexities of sports ethics, Timmy.
Dear Don and Gene-
Please STFU. We remember 1994. Encouraging players to use PEDs and then not snitch is as stupid and helping kill the World Series.
Go to Hell and bring back Marvin Miller-
ghosts...
Re: Snitchell Investigation
As usual Frank Thomas says "fuck off" to what everyone else thinks and cooperated anyway.
No puedo leer inglés.
-Insert foreign player name here.
XXX-XXX-XXXX is disconnected like a motherfucker.
I can just smell Fehr in this memo.
Fernando Tatis wishes he hadn't stopped mail delivery on September 5.
Way to take the high road major league baseball
@She Blinded Me With Violence: That number is TOAST.
ESPN Memo > MLBPA Memo
I generally can't stand the MLBPA but it sounds like they were giving good advice here. Why in the world would you talk to Mitchell if it could lead to you being (1) suspended, or (2) thrown in jail?
@wes mantooth: Looks like David Justice didn't get the memo.
Peyton thinks Gene should take a hint.
@Yinka Double Dare: For doing so, I hereby nominate the big hurt for instant entry into the DSHOF AND the BBHOF.
... and remember what your mothers told you players, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all.

As soon as John Kruk finishes his Snickers bar, he'll be ready to comment.
BREAKING NEWS: Sen. George Mitchell reports that Paris Hilton has herpes. This is based on articles Sen. Mitchell has read.
If my locker is next to a player's locker who use steroids and/or HGH, I'll just move. I don't snitch!

Dear Frank Thomas,
Thanks! Call me if you need anything. Like, some Hall of Fame votes in 2015.
-- George Mitchell
fun fact: this is the first 6.5 MB file I have downloaded in some time that I haven't masturbated or illegally listened to.
"prosecutors generally follow practices of pursuing manufacturers and distributors not users" There's a couple of million black fellers that would beg to disagree...
I totally knew there were baseball players using steroids, but I did not specifically know it was every single one of these guys listed.
-- ESPNcmmntrOday2007
Why WOULD they encourage it?
Just sayin'.
@theslacker: Just wait until you read page 169. You might take that back.
Frank Thomas may not have listened to this memo but he does use the new cover sheet on his TPS reports.
@wes mantooth: The fuck is a Larry Bigbie?
MLBPA Tells Players Not To Cooperate
That's not at all what this says. They encouraged players to talk to their lawyers before considering talking to the Commission, and informed them that while Mitchell may claim that players will not be penalized from talking to him, he has no authority to say so.
MLBPA had to give this advice. They would have been doing their membership a disservice if they did not, particularly if, as warned, players could have been federally prosecuted based on the information provided to Mitchell. At the very least, they HAD to advise that players meet with a union attorney or their own personal attorney first.
I'm really impressed with Senator Mitchell's ability to talk to Radomski and go through his file drawer for information. All that in only two years!
XXX-XXX-XXXX sounds like my kind of movie triple feature.
Has Imus commented on this yet?
Perhaps my reading comprehension isn't what it used to be, but where exactly does it say to not cooperate with the investigation?
That memo looks to me like sound advice (from a union looking out for its members' best interest) to talk with an attorney before they go exposing themselves to possible criminal liability. Given the fact that a number of these dipshits were dumb enough to pay for their illegal drugs with checks, I think it was good advice.
I often admit criminal wrongdoing to former senators. Last week, I told George Allen how I molested an Irish Wolf Hound.
@theslacker: so that's where you've been!
Last week, I told George Allen how I molested an Irish Wolf Hound.
That's against the law?
Is the guy suggesting on ESPN that they just bought the stuff to be cool?
Did Mike Lansing buy HGH to be cool?
@wes mantooth: Who?
Did Troy Glaus get two copies of this?
I encourage every player in major league baseball who did not use performance-enhancing drugs to send me one U.S. dollar ($1) each to prove their innocence.
I'll be rich I tells ya, rich!
I think what's missing is even a cursory "Drugs are bad, we are interested too in the long term effects it will have on the game we love" message. Just right to the point of "You tell the truth, you will fuck us and you."
