Michael Wilbon has his finger on the multiple cheeseburgers he's about to eat.
Corrected.
Michael Wilbon has his pulse on the established media's bullshit, fraidy cat attitude toward people doing real journalism (not really so much sports blogs at political blogs, but same argument).
that's the problem with most mainstream journalists, they all think they are in their own version of "all the president's men".
at least most bloggers realized they don't know shit and are talking out their asses.
The notion of blogging scares the hell out of me
Michael Wilbon fears Dan Steinberg. That could make for some awkward times at the Post.
"as", fuck.
I still stick by my assessment that columnists hate bloggers because they realize that bloggers do the same thing, only better.
@SweetnSourLouPiniella: When he's taking a shit in the men's room at the Post the notion of clogging scares the hell out of him as well.
@White Speed Receiver: But do bloggers use paper masks on popsicle sticks? Didn't think so...
@White Speed Receiver: I love blogging and bloggers more than the average bear, but Wilbon is better at what he does than roughly 99.5% of the blogosphere.
Wait, so Scott Van Pelt takes issue with people that criticize college athletes? I hadn't heard.
@Unsilent Majority: Can we start cloning him? Weed against Speed will probably back me up when I say that I live in a market with 4 columnists who couldn't work together to put together a decent column if baseball wasn't involved.
@Unsilent Majority: Amen. I worship at the altar of I.F. Stone as much as any respecting, skeptical, intelligent person...but even I can recognize that the majority of blogs stink next to even middle-ground legitimate, edited, print journalism.
I made a joke about Wilbon earlier because he's a little portly...but I have to say that I overwhelmingly share his opinion, and I have great respect for him and the fine work he does.
Does mean that I shouldn't participate on things like Deadspin, or is it funny that I am? Eh.
All hail print media, suckas.
Blogs are so passe; I don't waste my time with them.
What?
Blogging and actual journalism are as alike as baseball and softball. There's a lot of similar elements, but it's a completely different game.
I think the fear is that a journalist can be "scooped" by a blogger, because they don't have to fact check. Not that they do a better or worse job, but they can disseminate the same information quicker. There is also the fear that blogs become reputable news sources...which is like quoting the National Inquirer as truth.
At least he didn't blame hip hop.
When Mr. Wilbon wants your opinion, Mr. Wilbon will tell you what it is.
And to think affirmative action was intended to introduce diversity in newsrooms. As far as race, yes; but Wilbon proves pomposity and narrow-mindedness do not know color. The difference between Mr. Tony and Wilbon is that Wilbon mails in his columns while Mr. Tony has abandoned the charade. And BTW, Wilbon thinks baseball is beneath him; by his own admission, his interest in MLB is limited to the Cubs and White Sox.
