Grimsley Fingers Clemens, Pettite, Tejada

clemenspettitte.jpgAnd not in a good way. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Clemens, his good pal Andy Pettitte, and Miguel Tejada were among those accused of using performance-enhancers in the Jason Grimsley affidavit. Brian Roberts and Jay Gibbons, too. So much for Clemens getting through his career without ever being officially linked to performance-enhancers.

The Times says they got access to a non-redacted version of the document in which former Arizona Diamondback Jason Grimsley identified Major League Baseball players who used drugs. Grimsley, according to them, told investigators that Clemens and Pettitte used "athletic performance-enhancing drugs," (which could be anything, really) while Tejada, Brian Roberts, and Jay Gibbons "took anabolic steroids."

Of course, the Times also says that Grimsley's told friends of his that federal agents have misrepresented what he said. So, naturally, nothing's even close to being conclusive, but when is it ever? Gibbons and Tejada have already issued denials, and so has Clemens' agents.

My position has on steroids in baseball has long been that I just don't care. I'm a steroid agnostic, at least in terms of crucifying players who have used. It's not that I'm not disturbed by rampant steroid use in sports, it's that I've just accepted that we're never going to know for sure who did it and who didn't. I'm not going to get mad at a player who gets linked to steroids when the fact of the matter is that I've probably cheered in the past for guys who hit home runs just minutes after pulling a needle out of their ass.

More on this in the coming days, I'm sure.

  • know how i know you're gay?

    you fingered roger clemens.

  • Nothing shocking here. People have been saying for a while that Clemens sat out all those games at the beginning of the season rather than have it announced that he failed a drug test. Also, people have been saying for a while it was more than a B-12 shot Miggy was getting. I'm with MJD though, a lot of our favorite players are using now or used to get to the Bigs.

  • I'd just like to point out that Petitte is the most Jewish-looking Evangelical in history.

  • Any chance the "performance enhancers" are the Icy Hot that Roger rubs on his groin before each start?

bloggin all bout it, probably for the next few days: http://steroidlist.com/

  • Off topic, admittedly, but one day someone should devote a little time to compiling the most ridiculous pictures of scrotums like Pettite and Clemens wearing their uniforms over a dress shirt-and-tie. That baseball convention--no other sport does it--never fails to make me scornfully laugh.

  • you know how i know you're gay, you rub your groin and call it "performance enhancing."

i agree on the roids though. ain't no good gonna come of digging that up... knowing who i know, and w/o namedropping in any way, i'm saying 70% minimum were going over and above legal supplements. just sayin'.

  • yea, but hockey calls their jerseys "sweaters", so they suck way harder

Joy Behar is the Gentile most likely to be confused as a Jew, non-Rod Carew edition.

  • So maybe Palmeiro wasn't telling a complete lie. I mean the B-12 shot thing was absolute bullshit, but he might have dipped into Tejada's stash and gotten himself some liquid muscles.

  • Maybe it would be easier for everyone if we simply listed the Yankees that haven't used 'roids.

    tee hee hee

  • Ah Mr. Keane, you beat me too it.

  • Big Daddy Drew,

Corey Pavin not only looks Jewish, he actually is a Jewish evangelical.

  • One of my friends, a fellow Yankee fan, mentioned a few years ago that he was convinced that Pettite was doing steroids and that's why he kept getting hurt.

I'll admit I was skeptical at the time, thinking there was no way God-boy would put illegal substances into his body. These days I've pretty much changed my mind and I think everyone that Grimsley named (especially Brian Roberts and his big power numbers from last year) are guilty.

  • Roger Clemens, steroid user? Wow, I never saw that one coming.

  • Who would be surprised at the allegations on Roger Clemens? Remember when he appeared on the Zest commercials back in the early 80's? He was about 180 lbs, soaking wet. Now, what is he, 235 pounds? Give me a break. Only a moron would not see this one coming! What pictures does he have of whom that kept this from coming out sooner? He's a great pitcher in his 40's, but obviously has help!
