We are set up, once again, for a dreadful Monday Night Football game, but at least there's some history on the line: We'd love to see Steve Spurrier and the 1976 Buccaneers on the sideline, cheering for the Dolphins so that they can all have their yearly Miller High Life celebration once the last winless team finally succeeds.
It seems unlikely it'll happen this week; maybe the Dolphins should play the freaking Buzzsaw. The Steelers should have themselves some fun tonight, though it'll be amusing to hear Kornheiser attempt to come up with John Beck jokes. So, you know, enjoy, if you can: If only this were the game on the NFL network.

That may be the best picture of Pittsburgh ever taken.
Sienna Miller called Heinz Field a shithole.
Can't wait for the 10 minute long discussion of the word "confluence."
Save us John Madden, with your new Flexing muscles scheduling powers.
@Chicago Jones: I got your confluence right here.
Pittsburgh: the city Cops episodes were made for.
Things have gotten so bad with the Fins that I've already scheduled to go out for drinks... with girls... where there are no tv's for me to torture myself into viewing the game.
Seriously though, we're saving our one win for the Patriots.
/ At least Ricky will provide some entertainment
Great picture. In the foreground, parked right by the river, is that the van Rocky Bleier lives in?
@War Penguin: There is no better moment than when you come out of the Fort Pitt tunnel and see downtown Pittsburgh. It is breathtaking.
@J-No: Actually I like the same view much better when seen in my rear-view mirror.
@Chief Wahoo: I love the Burgh. Can we still be friends? Or followers or whatever? Pretty please.
Yes, THAT Ricky
Anyone who has actually been to Pittsburgh will tell you it is a surprisingly scenic city, in the dark and from far away (on Mt. Washington).
That picture is actually from a few years ago (I can tell by the construction. It was my last year in Pittsburgh. Also around the time a driver missed the left hand bend in that road and drove into the river in broad daylight.
24-10 Pittsburgh

@J-No: I concer. I never get tired of coming out of the tunnel and see the city.
@J-No: I know. I get to see that view a lot, and it's still awesome, every time.
Watching the sun rise over downtown from one of the hills almost gives it a run for its money, on a clear day.
Ted Roof is no longer the coach of Duke Football, following his firing.
Sad days in Durham... Oh, no one will actually notice.
/threadjack.
@J-No: I loved Pitt, mainly for that. It looked so beautiful, all spread out right in front of you when you come out of the tunnel.
@hrbek cheated: Brady Anderson is hitting leadoff for this team too? So we can mark him down for 50+ this year, because next year he will disappear?
@Trot Nixons Hat: Duke has a football team?
@hrbek cheated:
Jim Rice
Lee Smith
Dale Murphy
Andre Dawson
Ala Tony K: That's it. That's the list.
There's only one thing that can truly make a towel terrible
@Slothrop: Dude, no Mattingly?
ESPN.com's featured comment right now:
Gee, gatordmb89, thanks for the insight.
@J-No: C'mon, me being from Cleveland, it's a friendly rivalry. Like kissing cousins, just not in the West Virginia sense.
@metschick: Me, too. How have you been? Have you been lawyering?
Alright, DUAN, it seems that RU is headed to Toronto for the International Bowl - and I'm going with them.
Anyone got any recommendations on what to do/where to eat in Toronto?
@MrRedDevil:
no and no. and cut those sideburns, hippie!
I've never understood the Church of Mattingly.
@J-No: no lawyering yet.
The job search is in full force, and I've got some prospects, but we'll see...
@metschick:
Canadian hash is always good.
@War Penguin: That was actually pretty entertaining. I had forgotten how much the Steelers owned the Browns at 3 Rivers.
@Slothrop: Calm down Conlin. I grew up in the Church of Dale Murphy, but I do think Mattingly was a heck of a ballplayer.
@metschick: good luck Metsy!
Pittsburgh does have a nice little baseball stadium.
@metschick: A buddy of mine recommends Jack Astor's and The Keg. And apparently Wayne Gretzky has a restaurant, but I dunno how much you care about hockey. If you do, of course, there's always the Hockey HOF.
@metschick: College St. has a nice mix of cultural restaurants closest to Downtown, from Latin American to Indian cuisine. Or if your feelin' Euro, The Danforth is Greektown. The Friendly Greek is indeed friendly to your stomachs.
@metschick: If you get a hotel room at the stadium that faces the field, make sure you close the curtains before you get naked and or get busy in said room. Otherwise, you'll probably be making your TV and internet performing debut.
@a shoo in. Is there a veteran's committee? [Crosses fingers because has never posted HTML here before.]
@Ed Jucker: fuck me. the preview don't lie.
Those following the Sean Taylor saga - looks like the news is better:
[blog.washingtonpost.com]
Summary - Taylor is responsive to requests to squeeze doctors' hands and shows facial expressions.
@Roy Hobbs: Great! We'll know Sean is better when he jumps out of the hospital bed and, out of instinct, tackles the doctor.
@Roy Hobbs: I was just coming here to post that. Very exciting stuff.
Granted, I was only there for a day, but I thought Pittsburgh was a beautiful city, and I really want to go back.
/no sarcasm
@J-No: Agreed - it's not as much fun to come from the opposite direction, and I often think about just driving around.
Mmmmmmmm......High Life.
Jets/Fins next week in Miami. Definitely the game of the year.
@jwaves: Oooh, now that's a good tip. I hadn't thought of that.
@MrRedDevil: Thanks.
@War Penguin: I did a search of restaurants in downtown Toronto, and Jack Astor's and the Keg both made the cut. I still have to submit my list to the rest of the people going, but we'll narrow it down to 2/3 restaurants to check out while we're there.
@Coming Into The Game, The Superstar Receiver, Of Your Upper Deck Torontooo BJsss: College St. I'll have to remember that.
@MrRedDevil: hee. I WISH I could stay at one of those hotel rooms. We'll prob be staying at the Raddison Harbourfront.
I'll be there for my birthday (Jan. 4th), so I have to pick out a nice restaurant for my bday dinner. Anyone? I was thinking of going to the restaurant at the CN Tower, because dining up there sounds amazing. But if any of you tells me it's not worth it, we'll just go up there and dine somewhere else.
@Hrbek Cheated:
Is your name an allusion to the Ron Gant play in the WS? Oh, and Dale Murphy deserves to be in the HOF.
@Roy Hobbs: And guess who dropped his well wishes in the comments:
COME ON SEAN! COME ON BABY! COME ON SEAN! THE GLOVER PARK CREW IS PULLING FOR YOU BABY!
The Governor
Is DTC now defunct?
@lavaughn: one and the same. are the twins for real or is hrbek just pulling our leg?
@lavaughn: Either that, or he's been fishing and playing cards with Kent.
