The Big Lead is broken. Not a surprise.
That's because Easterbrook is named in it.
ESPN frowns on any actual news items. It is hard to yell and say crazy un-logical things about actual news.
I heard Dawson's on the list, but Pacey isn't.
Seriously, here's the deal: ESPN waits while its' competitors do the dirty suing/FOIA work. Depending on the outcome, it either ignores the story or runs an "ESPN News Services" bylined post, which includes some piece of shit "Yeah, we're surprised" quote Jerry Crasnick gets from a GM, so it looks like they're on top of the story. But I'd bet the former.
As a former journalist, when your competitors are doing FOIA/lawsuit work for information, the only reason you join the cause is if you have a source whose information or perspective can actually enhance the material you're suing for. Otherwise, in a 24-hour internet news cycle, if someone else is doing the heavy lifting you sit back, wait and reap the reward. Names/facts in sealed records are not made public only to those who sue for them. They're made public, period. There's no difference in what SI will report, if it's successful, and what ESPN will report, if it sits back and waits.
If this doesn't make sense or sounds full of shit, sorry, I am working from home today, which means I get to get drunk over lunch.
