Paul Pierce Is One DUI Away From Becoming Carmelo Anthony

Come on. It's the NBA Finals. Only two teams should be relevant at this point. And since you can't walk three steps without sniffing the history of the Lakers-Celtics rivalry, you'd hope that someone would talk a little jive toward the other. It probably wouldn't be sportsmanlike, but it's definitely something we all want to hear. Paul Pierce will probably defer the trash talking, since it's what Jesus would do, but he's got no problem sending it the way of players whose seasons are long done. More »

The Truth Really Does Hurt. Just Ask LeBron and The Cavaliers

The NBA Closer is written by Matt McHale, who watched some legendary basketball yesterday. When he's not being really freaking impressed by Paul Pierce and LeBron James, he can be found being...really freaking impressed by Paul Pierce and Lebron James at Basketbawful. Enjoy!

Larry Paul versus Dominique LeBron. Look, I'm not even going to pretend to be unmoved here. Fans of the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers had to endure one of the ugliest series in NBA history for six brutal games, but you know what? The final game made it all worthwhile. (Okay, mostly worthwhile.) As Game 7 showdowns go, this one ranks right up there with Larry Bird versus Dominique Wilkins in the 1988 Eastern Conference Semifinals, right down to a Celtic superstar with a wispy, porn star mustache and an opposing superstar who went down with his head held high. Green Day

All of this talk about the Boston Celtics setting an NBA record for wins in a season has me a little disoriented; seeing that they've only played six games, and Scot Pollard and Leon Howe are on their roster. Could Boston actually best the 1995-96 Bulls' NBA-best record of 72-10? It's ludicrously early to speculate on that; I'm not even totally sold on the Celtics winning their division. More »

Your Feeble Kicks Have No Effect On ... DOH!

It's an idea whose time has come; NBA players as European soccer goalies. Perhaps the Celtics' Paul Pierce is not the one to blaze this particular trail, however; as he looks here less like a keeper and more like a captured tuna. More »

    Gilbert Arenas Can't Stop Shooting

Via Mr. Irrelevant, we present this picture of Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas, who had a rather nuts battle with Boston's Paul Pierce last night. (Pierce hit a game-winning shot at the buzzer.) More »

    The Ultimate 1-On-1 Bracket

We've been watching with much amusement the 1-on-1 hypothetical contests going on at YAYSports!. They've basically taken the top 16 players in the NBA and allowed viewers to vote on who would win a 1-on-1 game. The final four are Kevin Garnett, LeBron James, Tracy McGrady and ... Paul Pierce. We have no disrespect for Mr. Pierce, but one of the main reasons for his ascendance to the final four is the boosting of Celtics Blog.net, a fine Celtics site. ('Tis the problem with polls, gentlemen.) More »
