Well, it's not quite as bad as defending yourself for murder — though also not quite as entertaining — but it'll do for now. Soccer "star" El-Hadji Diouf has been taking some real heat for using a public defender to represent him against charges of spitting on an 11-year-old last November. (They charge people for that? That was pretty much grade school for us.) Diouf's insistence on using a public defender is amusing because:
a: He's a millionaire.
b: Poor people are often denied public defenders in England.
c: He's on trial for spitting.
Heck, we almost admire his guts on this one. That's a lot of trouble to go through for avoiding a legal bill.
