There are very few memorable players with just 25 career major league at-bats. And yet, we vividly remember Stubby Clapp from his brief 2001 stint with the Cardinals. What could it have been?
Clapp was a career minor leaguer, even getting his number retired by the AAA Memphis Redbirds a few years back. Since then he's been coaching in the Astros system, and this is his first season as manager of the Short-Season A Tri-City ValleyCats. Clapp was burning last night after one of his players was denied first base on a maybe-HBP. Noticeably irritated and inflamed, Clapp really gave it to the home plate ump.
