Randy Foye had 29 of 'Nova's 60 points. Not what you'd call balanced, but nonetheless effective.

• College Basketball: Georgetown 53, Florida 57. Joakim Noah: 15 points, 10 boards, 5 blocks. Unsightly man, but a very attractive stat line.

• College Basketball: George Mason 63, Wichita State 55. I don't know how we got to this point, but it seems entirely possible that Mason could win a home game against UConn, who has still yet to beat anyone convincingly.

• College Basketball: Connecticut 98, Washington 92 (OT). It might just be me, but I'm getting a little tired of 1- and 2-seeds hitting buzzer beaters. Those should be reserved for underdogs. 1- and 2-seeds shouldn't even be allowed to try them until they get to the Final Four.

<![CDATA[ About Last Night... ]]> • College Basketball: Bradley 77, Kansas 73. Next year, when Kansas wins the Big 12 and locks up a 1-seed, they may want to decline it and opt for the NIT, just to save themselves the embarrassment. (Of course, if you read The FYC, you already knew it was going to happen.)

• NBA: Pistons 103, Knicks 105. I'd have put money on Albany to beat UConn before I would have guessed that the Knicks would beat the Pistons.

• College Basketball: Pennsylvania 52, Texas 60. Sad to see the Quakers exit so early, but rest assured that they remain a very close-knit society of friends.

And, as always, MJD is overjoyed to be here with you on the weekends. If there's anything I can do for you, if you've got a tip for me, or if you want to correct one of the 20 or so egregious errors I'm likely to make, feel free to pass along a note...

<![CDATA[ About Last Night... ]]> • NBA: Pistons 92, Wizards 110. The Wizards have now beaten the Pistons twice, which I find confusing. Gilbert Arenas must be really mad at Flip Saunders.

• College Basketball: Utah State 63, Nevada 70. Nick Fazekas got Frizeaky (sorry) on Utah State, with 23 and 14. Utah State was not helped by having a 29-year-old guy on the roster.

• College Basketball: Long Beach State 70, Pacific 78. If you had it in you to watch that one last championship game at midnight, I salute you. Pacific will dance for the third straight year.

<![CDATA[ About Last Night... ]]> Syracuse 58, Georgetown 57. The 'Cuse advances to the Big East conference finals, and Jim Boeheim decides he's going to start cursing like a drunken sailor after every game.

Pitt 68, Villanova 54. Pitt joins Syracuse in the finals, and Carl Krauser decides he's going to start poking opposing guards in the eye during every game.

Cleveland 73, Orlando 102. I got excited when I saw that Darko had 10 at the half. I became less excited when I saw that he finished with 11. But still... baby steps. Baby-stepping towards the basket... baby-stepping towards a double-double...

<![CDATA[ About Last Night... ]]> calzaghe.jpg• College Basketball: UNC 83, Duke 76. Tar Heels forward Tyler Hansbrough puts in 27 points, and I think I've seen enough of the color blue for a while.

• NHL: Senators 4, Maple Leafs 2. Eric Lindros hurts himself. In other news, ice is cold.

• Boxing: Joe Calzaghe wins unanimous decision over Jeff Lacy. Goofy Welsh white guy completely beats the hell out of dieseled American black guy. I'm a little confused this morning.

<![CDATA[ About Last Night... ]]> • NBA: Bobcats 121, Suns 136. Both teams had over 100 through 3 quarters. It seems kinda unfair for Charlotte to score 121 points and lose. I didn't think they could score 121 in an empty gym.

• College Basketball: San Diego 59, #5 Gonzaga 75. I really wish some other WCC team would get good, because talking about these late night Gonzaga blowouts gets kinda old.

• NBA: Knicks 89, Wizards 110. Gilbert Arenas had 46. So did the Knicks starting five.

<![CDATA[ About Last Night... ]]> • NBA: Wizards 102, Cavaliers 94. LeBron James was booed by the ill-tempered Cleveland crowd as he missed his final seven free throws down the stretch. A word of advice, Cavs fans: LeBron's contract is up in a year, and if you piss him off too bad... well, I hope you enjoy about 12 Zydrunas Igauskus Bobblehead nights per year.

• Fishing: Bassmaster Classic. Luke Clausen caught 5 fish that weighed a total of 29 pounds, 6 ounces, helped by his a junebug-colored hard-nose bait. Whatever happened to just plain old worms?

• NBA: Nets 94, Knicks 90. Assists: Jason Kidd 9, New York Knicks 12. Steve Francis had a quiet 16, while Nenad Krstic inexplicably went 11-for-11 from the floor.

• College Basketball: Gonzaga 79, Loyola Marymout 70. Gonzaga has already wrapped up at least a share of the WCC regular season title. For this, they deserve a polite golf clap and an Oreo cookie with the creamy filling already scraped out of the center.

• College Basketball: Pitt 82, Marquette 84. Banner day for Marquette, between the basketball team collecting their 2nd victory over a Top 25 team in three days, and Dwyane Wade winning the Playstation Skills Challenge.

<![CDATA[ About Last Night... ]]> • NBA: Memphis 100, LA Lakers 99. Before the game started, Magic Johnson presented Kobe with a warmup jacket that featured the All-Star logos from all nine of Kobe's all-star games up and down the sleeves. Touching. And a little strange.

• College Basketball: Gonzaga 80, Stanford 76. Adam Morrison goes for 34, 12 of them coming in the last three minutes of the game. Stanford, at 12-9, is in some serious trouble.

• NHL: Columbus 2, Nashville 5. Marek Zidlicky had two power play goals for the Predators. Zidlicky, Zidlicky, Zidlicky.

• College Basketball: Mayville State 67, North Dakota State, 93. Archie Witherspoon IV, quickly making us all forget Archie Witherspoon III, led the Mayville State Comets with 12. North Dakota State ensures their fourth straight winning season.

• NBA: Detroit 85, Indiana 93. Pacers forward Stephen Jackson heroically shakes off injury and scores 20 points to help the struggling Pacers topple the mighty Pistons. I'm a little confused.

• Women's College Basketball: Oregon State 54, #15 Stanford 87. Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer chalks up her 650th career win, which is pretty good. For a girl.

• Arena Football: New York Dragons 51, Chicago Rush 47. In the last 2:28, there was a fumble, a kickoff that hit the scoreboard, and three touchdowns, the last of which was called back, giving New York the win.

• NBA: Kings 79, Jazz 89. "We got brain-locked in the fourth," said Ron Artest. When Ron-Ron is diagnosing your brain-lock, you have problems.

• College Basketball: Oklahoma 82, Texas 72. I don't know how it is that no Oklahoma fans have dropped by to call me an idiot for what I said in yesterday's "To Watch Tonight."

• Tennis: Australian Open. Amelie Mauresmo is your champion. In the third round against Mauresmo, Michaella Krajicek retired with heat stress. In the smifinals, Kim Clijsters retired against her with an ankle injury. And in the finals, Justine Henine-Hardenne retires with gastrointestinal issues. Congratulations, Amelie. Your witch doctor deserves a raise.

• NBA: Boston 84, Sacramento 74. Ron Artest's stat line: 31 minutes, 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 0 innocent people harmed or threatened. I think new Celtic Wally Szczerbiak may have killed someone, though.

• Australian Open: Marcos Baghdatis over Andy Roddick, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. It's just as well, I suppose... let some other schmuck lose to Roger Federer. Go hang out with Maria.

• NBA: Cavs 108, Jazz, 90. Quite a night for the James family. LeBron scored 51 in the win, despite playing with a sore right knee and a cold... and I think his mother may have gotten into his NyQuil.

Golf: Michelle Wie bounces back from her opening round 79 to post a 68 at Waialae, which was good enough for her to finish one stroke better than the people who missed the cut by five strokes. I think congratulations are in order.

Figure Skating: Rena Inoue and John Baldwin qualify for the Torino games by winning the U.S. Figure Skating Championships with a triple throw axel, which is something I've only been able to pull off once or twice this past week.

<![CDATA[ About Last Night... ]]> • NFL: Jaguars 3, Patriots 28. It was a Tom Kazanski performance for the Patriots last night. It's the way they play, ice cold, no mistakes. They wear you down, you get bored, frustrated—do something stupid and they've got you.
• NBA: Jazz 94, Pistons 90. Utah beats Detroit for the second time this season, sweeping the season series. The rest of the NBA lets out a collective, "What the hell?" And in a completely unrelated story, a Salt Lake City movie theater owned by Jazz owner Larry Miller refuses to show Brokeback Mountain.
• NBA: Lakers 112, Clippers 109. If I told you that a Laker scored 50 points, 40 of them in the second half, you'd think it was Von Wafer, wouldn't you? Well, you'd be wrong. It was Kobe Bryant. Wafer did have 0 points and 3 fouls in 3 minutes of play, though, which is almost as good.

• College Basketball: Morehead (which is what I want for Christmas, incidentally) State takes a savage beating at the hands of UConn, 129-61. UConn guard Rashad Anderson had 33, and six other guys finished in double figures for the Huskies. Damn.
• NBA. Vince Carter goes for 51 as the Nets beat the Heat. "We're just trying to earn respect," said Vince. Hmm. Nope. Didn't work.

• College football: Northern Iowa 40, Texas State 37. Wasn't Texas State the team in Necessary Roughness? But in the movie, they were the Fightin' Armadillos. In reality, they're the Bobcats. They also lost... which I guess is what happens when you try to win without Scott Bakula.
