    California developed comparative responsibility, which divides fault by percentage, versus the old standard of contributory negligence. But that's for torts; not sure how California deals with the criminal charges.


    That's all I remember from first semester. I'm sure Deadspin, LLC can provide additional info.

    @Step aside, Son: A seatbelt saved my life from being taken due to another drivers actions once, I was ran off the road and off a cliff 25 feet into a shallow stream, flipped a bunch of times, and the seatbelt took me from very likely death to just really sore with nothing broken.


    Not saying seatbelts had one thing to do with this either, but seriously everyone, wearing a seatbelt is so worth it. It can keep you alive and well. It's worth it.

    @Wilson Chandlerstick Maker: I'm in the same boat as you. These always hit close to me, because I tried dying in a car accident too. I assume the seatbelt saved me, since the windshield ended up hitting a tree 15 feet away.


    My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends. Too fucking young.
