Last night, Kendra Davis, wife of NBA forward Antonio Davis, attempted to clear her "name" on CNBC's "The Big Picture With Donny Deutsch" in her first public comments since the incident in Chicago where her husband ran in the stands to "protect" her.

Since the incident was a month and a half ago, we thought perhaps Kendra Davis might have finally accepted the truth of what every single eyewitness but her says occurred: That she was rowdy and screaming in the face of famous finger-wagger Michael Axelrod.

Nope. Instead, Davis spinned a yarn that was not only unbelievable, but kind of makes us think she might be batshit insane. First, she — speaking primarily through her cleavage — says that Axelrod screamed, "Antonio Davis is a pussy! Someone should break his fucking neck!" This is an assertion that not a single witness ever corroborated and, in fact, has been directly refuted. Repeatedly.

But then Davis really goes nuts. When asked by Deutsch whether Axelrod knew Davis was her husband, she said, "He said he didn't, but there were 12 girls in the row right behind him, all with pizza boxes spelling out A-N-T-O-N-I-O D-A-V-I-S. He had to have known."

We encourage anyone to find these alleged girls in a single video of the incident. Or, for that matter, a pizza box. Or a stray "O."

We know, Ms. Davis, that is has been a month and a half since the incident and that memories are notoriously unreliable. But, uh, you know the whole thing's on video, right?

<![CDATA[The Crazy Trading Season Continues]]> Anna Benson and Ron Artest have already found new homes, and now Kendra Davis joins in the fun, as the Knicks sent her and her husband back to Toronto in exchange for Jalen Rose and a first-round pick.

If you're into conspiracy theories, consider that there's been a little bit of friction reported between legendary head coach Larry Brown and far-less-than-legendary GM Isiah Thomas. Antonio Davis, who will do things like play defense and rebound, was a Larry Brown favorite, while the guy they get in return, Jalen Rose, feels about defense how Stephen A. Smith feels about understated subtlety.

So the Raptors get back Antonio Davis, and for his purposes in this trade, he might as well be referred to as "Cap Room." No word on what Mrs. Cap Room thinks of the deal, but I have a theory that they agreed to include the first round pick if the Knicks agreed to chain Kendra Davis to a park bench in New York and not let her get anywhere near Toronto.

<![CDATA[Kendra Davis: Unsafe At Any Speed]]> We will say this: We haven't heard of any arrests or any outstanding delinquent payment on civil suits from Michael Axelrod lately. We will say that.

The free fall of Antonio Davis' "helpless spouse" Kendra Davis has begun, and it's getting ugly. After reports yesterday that Kendra Davis was being charged with misdemeanor battery, everyone's favorite aggrieved fan turned herself in yesterday and was released on $500 bond. While responding to the charges that she threw hot coffee in a woman's face during a road rage incident, Chicago's WLS-TV also found a woman to whom Kendra Davis owes $11,000 for an automobile accident a decade ago. Davis lost the civil court judgment but forfeited her Illinois license when she didn't pay it.

The couple still lives in Naperville, a suburb of Chicago. We don't give away home addresses around here, but you can tell which house is theirs; just look for the ones all the neighbors are afraid to even look at, lest Kendra come storming out. We imagine her lambasting trick-or-treaters, or wagging her finger in the face of any unfortunate Jehovah's witnesses.

<![CDATA[We Suggest Keeping One's Distance From Kendra Davis]]> Hey, anyone who still thinks the fan was totally to blame for the Antonio Davis running-into-the-stands incident, please raise their hands. Anyone? Anyone?

It one of those Oh, She's Like That incidents, the Chicago Tribune reports that Antonio's wife Kendra Davis has been charged with misdemeanor battery. What'd she allegedly do? Try flinging a hot cup of coffee on a woman with whom she'd had a traffic accident.

A 40-year-old Minooka woman claimed that Davis ran a stop sign on Naper Boulevard on Oct. 27, 2005, according to police. The woman alleged that when she confronted Davis at Naper Boulevard and Market Drive, Davis threw a cup of McDonald's coffee through the driver's side window.

The victim, who denies Kendra Davis' claim that she used a racial epithet, only recently decided to follow through with the charges. (Wonder what might have spurred her on.) Kendra Davis has not yet "surrendered" to police, but when she does, she'll have to post bond.

So in other words, if you're out there, Michael Axelrod, we tell you this: Aren't you glad she was drinking booze rather than coffee? Could have been worse.

Truth On Davis Story Finally Getting Out [Deadspin]

<![CDATA[Truth On Davis Story Finally Getting Out]]> This menacing individual, as many of you probably know by now, is Michael Axelrod, the fan that Antonio Davis sprinted into the stands Wednesday night to save his wife from. But word's beginning to trickle out now, as first reported here yesterday, that it was Kendra Davis who was the instigator of the incident. Axelrod himself gave interviews all day yesterday, and he's convincingly, uh, not scary.

And thing is, now video is backing up his (and our correspondent Tom Malkin's) account to; WLS-TV in Chicago — you have to click on the "Sports" link above — has definitive video of Kendra up in the face of Axelrod, who quite plainly motions for security to come over for help. (Yeah, uh, where was security anyway?)

Antonio Davis has been suspended five games, which seems somewhat excessive to us, considering he couldn't have known that Kendra was the aggressor. (Of course, maybe he should have suspected.) And now Axelrod is suing. And slowly, quietly, the Jay Mariottis of the world are backpedaling from their "drunk fans causing trouble again" storylines — this guy actually wrote "I don't trust fans" in his last column; who exactly does he think is reading it? — and we would like to remind the sports world, next time an incident like this happens and everyone just blasts out-of-control and unruly fans, exactly who it is that pays everyone's salary.

A Differeing View On Davis' Trip Into The Stands [Deadspin]

<![CDATA[A Differing View On Davis' Trip Into The Stands]]> Deadspin reader Tom Malkin was in a section right by Antonio Davis' wife during the incident at the United Center last night, and he has a very different take on what actually happened prior to Davis' stomp upstairs. Here's an excerpt:

A fan who was sitting two rows directly behind her, was rooting loudly for the Bulls. He did not say anything offensive. He did not swear. He was just rooting for the Bulls. It appeared that Kendra (Davis' wife) didn't like it that someone was rooting against her husband. She got up and went to the guy's seat (he remained seated the whole time) and started waving her hands in his face. She kept telling him to "calm down" and "relax," and the guy kept telling her to get away from him. He was not at all confrontational. She called a member of the Bulls security staff over and told him what had happened from her perspective. He did nothing to discipline the fan since he apparently did nothing wrong.

A fascinating — and, we'll admit, completely convincing — tale from the inside. Malkin's full report is after the jump.

(Update: The fan Kendra Davis went after initially is corroborating Malkin's account.)

I'm an ex-New Yorker living in Chicago and I was at the Bulls game last night. I wanted to share a different perspective on what happened because what is being reported is not at all accurate. I was sitting less than 10 feet from Kendra Davis and saw the whole thing.

The section of seats is filled with longtime season ticketholders so there are no "troublemakers" who sit there. Given that it was Eddy Curry's first game back in Chicago since being traded, most of the seats in the section were filled by the ticketholders themselves.

Throughout the game, Kendra was making a spectacle of herself. She'd stand up during the game and yell to her friends sitting behind her. The only alcohol I saw consumed in the section all night was by members of her group.

When the game went into overtime, the intensity obviously increased. A fan (the balding fellow mentioned in Jay Mariotti's column today) who was sitting two rows directly behind her, was rooting loudly for the Bulls. He did not say anything offensive. He did not swear. He was just rooting for the Bulls. It appeared that Kendra didn't like it that someone was rooting against her husband.

At that point, another fan sitting nearby asked her to sit down because she was obstructing his view of the game. She immediately ran over and started screaming at him, repeatedly sticking her finger in his face. He asked her to stop sticking her finger in his face, but she continued to do it and he grabbed her finger to defend himself because he didn't not know what her intentions were. As he held her finger, she lunged at him with her other hand, and he grabbed that one to protect himself. He pushed her hands away from him, and at that point Antonio Davis arrived at his seat. There was a Bulls security person who restrained him from going after the fan. Davis was then escorted back down to the court.

Security talked to a number of people and quickly determined that Kendra Davis was at fault. She and her kids were escorted from the section. The balding fellow left his seat for a short time to give his statement and returned to his seat a short time later. Nobody was ejected, nobody was arrested.

From the stories I've read, this is not the first time she has gotten in trouble at a game (the argument with Latrell Sprewell). One of the other fans sitting in the section was from Naperville, where Davis lived while playing with the Bulls and his\ son played Little League baseball with Antonio Jr. (Davis' son). He said that she was constantly making a spectacle of herself and would routinely getting into arguments with other fans and families.

I hope you'll get this side of the story out. People should know the truth about what happened.

What Really Happened In The Stands? Nothing. [Deadspin]

<![CDATA[What Really Happened In The Stands? Nothing.]]> As most of you have probably already seen this morning, Knicks forward Antonio Davis ran into the stands last night in Chicago to "protect his wife from an intoxicated fan." Davis said, "I saw him touch her, and I know I should not have acted the way I did, but I would have felt terrible if I didn't react. I felt I had to act."

Davis didn't throw any punches and, other than the television-gold money shot of Davis standing on the scorer's table, nothing really happened. And for an even more in-depth report on nothing happening, a Deadspin reader happened to be sitting a few rows behind Davis' wife and files the following report:

Just got back from the Bulls game. Was sitting around antonio davis' wife. A fan behind her was taunting Antonio Davis during the game, and his wife took offense. She asked the man to stop, Antonio's kids were at the game, etc. The fan said he has a right to say whatever he wants. At this point some security comes over, and another fan stands up to tell the wife to "Sit down and shut up." She immediatly walked over to him and started pointing in his face, which caused the fan to grab her finger. It was at this point Antonio Davis jumped the scorers' table and went up to the fan. There was no confrontation, he barely even looked at the fan. He merely made sure his wife was OK, and the situation was handled with security.

We kinda think this is pretty much the end of the story. Davis went in the stands, which requires an ejection, and he got one. He didn't start wildly punching people; he just went to check on his wife. This is a guy who watches college basketball games with his mother-in-law. This is no Ron Artest (or Stephen Jackson, for that matter.)

(Note: Our favorite part of this has to be the two jackasses waving their arms for the camera when they realize Davis is behind them. Yes, yes: You're on The TV. Good for you. We have a feeling they used the "we were just on The TV!" pickup line at United Center area bars until about 2 a.m. this morning. Then it was time to give up and go home.)
